Rick Perry campaign plays blame game

With a revamped message and a significant TV presence here, Rick Perry is hoping to revive his disappointing presidential campaign with a surprise finish Tuesday.

But even as they hold out hope that Perry can find a way back into contention, some of his advisers have begun laying the groundwork to explain how the Texas governor bombed so dramatically in a race that he seemed to control for a brief period upon his entry in August.

Their explanations for the nosedive come against the backdrop of a campaign riven by an intense, behind-the-scenes power struggle that took place largely between a group of the governor’s longtime advisers and a new cadre of consultants brought on this fall. In the end, the outsiders won out — and ever since have marginalized Perry’s longtime chief strategist while crafting a new strategy in which the Texan has portrayed himself as a political outsider and culture warrior.

In a series of interviews with POLITICO, sources close to the campaign depict a dysfunctional operation that might be beyond saving because of what they describe as the political equivalent of malpractice by the previous regime.

“There has never been a more ineptly orchestrated, just unbelievably subpar campaign for president of the United States than this one,” said a senior Perry adviser.

Perry’s only role at this point is simply to siphon votes away from Rick Santorum, Michelle Bachmann and possibly even Newt Gingrich.

“portrayed”

Perry is a master of portraying.

Bachmann has no votes. She should drop out today and endorse someone while she still is relevant. Harsh but true. A few people showed up for a campaign stop today. A bakers dozen at best.

Advisers can point fingers at each other, both insider and outsider, but Perry simply hasn’t delivered as a candidate. His core message was great. He just couldn’t execute on stage. his debate gaffes simply killed him off. Unless he makes a last minute recovery into the top 3, he will likely be done. It wasn’t advisers or strategists. It was Perry. He pretty much was sunk before the DC heavyweight advisers even joined. He had the clearest path of anyone to victory, but detrailed. The advisers that came in actually made him better. I saw some great interviews in November/December. The ‘3 things’ gaffe was likely the final nail.

What a a joke.
Now Politico is the defacto source of truth? LOL!

Here is a little clue folks...
Nobody expected Perry to sweep Iowa or NH.
Its reasonable to expect that he can come in 3rd or 4th in Iowa, with its caucus system.
NH? LOL
New Hampster is such a mess with its open primarys it is a joke and not reflective of conservatives in any way.
No offense to Iowa or NH

Look to SC to see how the true base electorate will vote.
Then look to Fla to see how the masses will vote

I just saw Perry on Fox News and he seems to think he won’t win the nominee. He seemed very down. He said “Well I will vote for the eventual nominee, but I still hope it is me.” I think he knows he is done. It would be nice if he would come out and endorse Santorum. I would give him some kudos for doing so. If he would endorse him today, that would be pretty good.

You’re right. He seemed to have something else on his mind. Like the tough task of packing up that chuck wagon and heading back to Texas after Tuesday night.

His stumbles in the early debates showed he didn’t think fast on his feet.

That whole controversy about the ranch name showed he could not deal with MSM sucker-punches.

Then he kinda just dropped out of view to “learn” how to run for national office. Not a confidence builder.

“There has never been a more ineptly orchestrated, just unbelievably subpar campaign for president of the United States than this one,” said a senior Perry adviser.

Who is this advisor? does he have a name? Who's campaign is he referencing? It doesn't say.

Typical unsourced BS.

I can tell you this as fact. Cain is toast and Bachmann is toast

It’s stunning that people write Perry off but entertain idiots like Paul Pot.

naps, I’ve been thinking about you ever since Santorum made a bit of a splash this week. You must be very happy!

Totally agree. Same for Bachmann. If they both threw their support behind Santorum, it could be enough.

That whole controversy about the ranch name showed he could not deal with MSM sucker-punches.

What a stunningly stupid thing to say.

Perry's family rectified the perceived offense even though it had nothing to do with them.

Perry's family should be applauded for their actions, and Herb Cain should be jeered for trying to use the entire matter to paint Perry as a racist.

Wow...so Ron Paul is now being likened to a genocidal commie? Couldn’t find a way to use Hitler or Stalin?

This from an arm of the One in the Oval Office by fraud and pretense. He and his Ci-cago gang seem still to be fearful of Perry. Martin and Haberman “caring” about Republican chances? Give us a break. Their only concern repeatedly has been to give lap jobs to the fraud. The Politico bunch is still clearly afraid of Perry.

It’s a little joke about his stance on dope and his stance on isolationism.

Bingo!

And I like the Ricks and Michele, too.

But the quicker we unite around *****Newt*****, the quicker we end the Willard threat on conservatism.

Speaker Gingrich-led Republicans….the result:

* Four consecutive balanced budgets
* Over $400 billion of debt paid off
* Bipartisan welfare reform
* 11 million new jobs
* Unemployment falling to under 4%.
