Hey, if my fate is to be buried in a volcano, I’d rather have it happen while getting a tan on the beach in Hawaii than to have it happen while shivering on an iceberg!

The book, Exodus To Arthur, by Baillie is an excellent book.

Katla is a super volcano?

No.

The last super-volcano to blow was Toba. See here for details.

Baille's thesis is more than interesting ~ what we now know about Bolides is far greater than what we imagined just 10 years ago. They could be very large.

BTW, analysts think that St. Gildas may well refer to more than one individual, but so little is known about the fellow (that pesky Dark Age saw so terribly many things burned) that it is a merely a scholarly thing to place his birth at 500 AD rather than earlier or later.

I think it most interesting that he wore a single garment, had 24 brothers over beyond the Wall, and otherwise preached extreme pacificism.

Worth noting ~ why Gildas delayed his writing was because he'd gone to Rome just before the event. What had been an easy trip in 534 was abysmally disastrous in 536. He reports of what he saw on his way back and it does sound like he went overland from Rome to Britain.

Shortly afterward you find King Ad giving away the family farm to the Saxons ~

News from a few hours ago..

Huge volcano 390 miles from London set to erupt?
http://travel.aol.co.uk/2012/01/02/huge-volcano-390-miles-from-london-set-to-erupt/

A volcano with the power to eject billions of tons of magma is due to erupt anytime, say experts.

Located under the Laacher See lake near Bonn in Germany erupts every 10 to 12,000 years, and last exploded 12,900 years ago.

Small earthquakes in the region indicate that it could be waking up, and experts predict ‘widespread devastation, mass evacuations, and even short term global cooling from ash cloud blocking the sun’, says the Daily Mail.

Volcanologists believe that the volcano is still active as carbon dioxide bubbles are rising to the lake’s surface, which indicate the magma chamber degassing.

Experts are not entirely sure of the effects it would have on Britain, but predict that large areas of southern England could be covered in ash.

Hey, I second your choice of beach over chill mountains.

I live in beautiful South Carolina which has both miles of coastline and wonderful hills in the Piedmont area. I have vacationed in both places and rich folks whom I know have built huge houses in each of these locations.

But I’ll tell you this much, there are no black bears, snakes, or marauding raccoons on the beach, and there are no hordes of bikini clad girls in them thar hills (except maybe Lake Lure).

For me the choice is simple only please don’t tell my wife.

;^)
