I was of the opinion they left for simpler reasons than that; they left under cover of darkness for fear of attacks from “our” Iraqis. What was left for them to do in Iraq, with the Baath Party out, Saddam dead, and Iraqis devolving into what they were before?
Some would have us pretend that Iraqi Muslims—unique among the Muslims of the world—deep down love freedom just the same way Americans do, and would build a sturdy free republic... if only the US would keep an army there another 100 years!
They left as a campaign promise to the Impostor's most Leftist supporters.
