The Left’s So-Called Empathy [Mark Steyn]
National Review ^ | 1/7/2012 | Mark Steyn

Edited on 01/07/2012 9:51:06 AM PST by Admin Moderator. [history]

Lest you doubt that we’re headed for the most vicious election year in memory, consider the determined effort, within ten minutes of his triumph in Iowa, to weirdify Rick Santorum. Discussing the surging senator on Fox News, Alan Colmes mused on some of the “crazy things” he’s said and done.

Santorum has certainly said and done many crazy things, as have most members of America’s political class, but the “crazy thing” Colmes chose to focus on was Santorum’s “taking his two-hour-old baby when it died right after childbirth home,” whereupon he “played with it.” My National Review colleague Rich Lowry rightly slapped down Alan on air, and Colmes subsequently apologized, though not before Mrs. Santorum had been reduced to tears by his remarks. Undeterred, Eugene Robinson, the Pulitzer Prize–winning Washington Post columnist, doubled down on stupid and insisted that Deadbabygate demonstrated how Santorum is “not a little weird, he’s really weird.”

The short life of Gabriel Santorum would seem a curious priority for political discourse at a time when the Brokest Nation in History is hurtling toward its rendezvous with destiny. But needs must, and victory by any means necessary. In 2008, the Left gleefully mocked Sarah Palin’s live baby. It was only a matter of time before they moved on to a dead one.

Not many of us will ever know what it’s like to have a child who lives only a few hours. That alone should occasion a certain modesty about presuming to know what are “weird” and unweird reactions to such an event.

Excerpt, read more at National Review.

Great Steyn piece that exposes the utter, and truly crazy hypocrisy of the Left.

Already posted under a different title:http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/2829877/posts

The problem is that both posts are using the "correct" title for their respective sources, thus searching the title would not help. Any suggestions, Mod, JR?

Memento Mori used to be common in Victorian times.

Just saw it. Yes, I searched under title and I wouldn't have searched on 'Politics trumps Left's empathy'.

Empathy, empathy, empathy: You barely heard the word outside clinical circles until the liberals decided it was one of those accessories no self-proclaimed caring progressive should be without.

For libtards empathy is important because they consider it the essence of morality. Their logic of empathy is this:If you really feel what another person feels, and if you want to feel a sense of well-being, then you will want that person to experience a sense of well-being. Therefore, you will act so as to promote a sense of well-being in that person. The flaw with this is that they believe that the morality of empathy is a justification for some to use force against others and to violate their natural rights to make them be consistent with the libtard ideal of what empathetic behavior is.

There's no hypocrisy on the left. That would mean they have a conscious and they don't. They're nothing but pure evil. They folly in darkness and all things perverse. They're going to hell and want to drag the rest of us with them.

Brutally and painfully honest, this is among Steyn's best. I never fail intellectually to enjoy Steyn's columns, but this is a rare one which I had to read a few times to enjoy the clarity of his ideas.

Whether morals and ethics is based on secular philosophy, or the complex network of religions, that stream of historical links between past present and future human history, the bottom line is what counts is not what is claimed, but the results. A human being can be a political giant, but a moral imbecile. It always shows. Cognitive dissonnance may be an explanation, but never an excuse.

Evil is evil regardless of the fancy words it may use, or the fancy dress it may wear.

Thank you, Mark, for putting words to the disgust many of us feel for the "leadership" under which we suffer.

Empathy = slicing the pie differently.

Slicing the pie instead of growing it doesn’t work.

Employment Misery Index increasing! See charts!

This is from Zero Hedge. But this is Empathy?

Unless the postings are within minutes of each other, I see no reason to belabor the point. I am happy to have been able to read this thread, which otherwise I might have missed altogether.

After almost 14 years at Free Republic, I have yet to find a way to devine finding a thread I have no way of knowing was posted several hours ago.

Posting police : tiny people.

Just goes to show, the left loves humanity, but hates people.

From the dribs and drabs I've heard, Colmes actually understands that he did a dreadful thing and is sorry. Not just sorry people are calling him on it. That other idiot that doubled down on the “weirdness” of the Santorum family gave one of those “I'm sorry if you were offended” kind of apologias. Truly a scum bucket. I was listening to Dennis Prager and he remarked that he was over and over amazed at how low the Left can sink.

Why is this the business of anybody but the family?

I can't imagine having to say goodbye to a baby you have fallen in love with and only could look at them a brief time before burial. How dare these creeps make ANY comment. The Left as a group are sick and disgusting.

Can you imagine how Mrs. O would handle the news that she was carrying a Down Syndrome baby? Let's just guess that she and the Mister wouldn't want to be punished with it.

They all make me ill. The same scum that get so teary over a cop killer being executed.

Alan Colmes only “made it” because Hannity needed a stooge for his show. Colmes is an idiot and probably wets himself whenever he thinks (mistakenly) that he has said something witty.

There was no doubt of that, secret Mittbot Steyn, since a couple weeks ago when you were bewailing that Newt made you "physically ill".

Actually the postings were done hours apart, but I was the first one to mention that the different titles made it impossible to know that the first one had already been posted. Now, considering that, and that you are not the poster of either one, why does it bother you so much if I mention it? You call me “tiny people” for doing so, what does it say about you?
