Billionaire Adelson gives millions to Gingrich Super PAC

A longtime supporter of Newt Gingrich has donated $5 million to a super PAC backing his presidential bid, providing a major boost to Mr. Gingrich’s ailing campaign in the critical lead-up to Tuesday’s presidential primary in New Hampshire.

The donation, reported on Saturday night by The Washington Post, came from Sheldon Adelson, a Las Vegas casino mogul who has long been a generous patron of Mr. GIngrich’s political career. The “super PAC,” Winning Our Future, was formed last month by Becky Burkett, who served until earlier this year as chief development officer for American Solutions, a political action committee that Mr. Gingrich founded. Rick Tyler, a former spokesman and longtime aide to Mr. Gingrich, is a senior adviser to Winning Our Future.

Ms. Burkett declined to comment on the donation on Saturday.

The cash infusion from Mr. Adelson instantly catapaults Winning Our Future into the top ranks of so-called candidate super PACs, groups that can raise unlimited amounts of money from donors and spend it all on advertisements and other expenditures to back a specific candidate, so long as they do not coordinate with the campaign.

Look at their accomplishments. Newt allied himself with Ronald Reagan to build the Reagan Coalition, the Religious Right, and the Republican majority (together the Reagan Revolution) which directly led the downfall of the Soviet Union, the Contract with America, government reforms, less government, tax cuts, a balanced budget, and the great, long-standing Reagan economy.

Romney, on the other hand, vehemently denied Ronald Reagan and aligned himself with Ted Kennedy and the left. Romney accomplished installing liberal big government programs, defended and promoted Roe v Wade and legalized abortion as “settled law,” advocated and implemented RomneyCare with its liberty killing government mandates against formerly free citizens and its taxpayer funded or subsidized and mandated abortion procedures. He ran and governed to the left of Ted Kennedy on the “gay agenda” resulting in gay marriage in Massachusetts. He appointed liberal judges and liberal appointees throughout his government. Under his “leadership” conservatism and the Republican party was all but destroyed in Massachusetts.

Romney is one evil liberal progressive. No way in hell will MittBots be allowed to support this abortionist, big government, socialist scumbag on FR!

Guess my message isn’t clear enough. I have to keep repeating it and zotting would be MittBots.

Newt deserves the help. Everyone is scared of Newt. They almost quiver every time he has a chance to speak, few and fare between tonight and not one slip. I retract that, football not basketball.

I actually like Santorum, not Romney.
So I would appreciate you not assuming I am for Mitt, just because I like Santorum.
I don’t like Newt. A lot of posters here do. That is also reflected in the Nation as a whole, which is why this race
is so divided.

Wonder if it will be put to good use....

Not sure that Bain Capital bit is a huge winner. Plenty of better material to go after Mitt with....

Mitt gets a free pass again tonight. Newt had an opportunity and took a pass. Santorum gave it a shot, but Romney ignored him - as expected.

Newt was caught with pants down (so to speak) letting himself get Mittboated last time around. Grrr, never again.

Perry talks a good game, but it may take a Newt to actually play it. Newt will kick ‘em in the je ne sais quoi.

Newt was timid on Romney tonight. Maybe he will use that money to take down Romney in SC.

Why is it dirty money? It’s all legal. Marvin Adelson has been a huge supporter of Republicans. He hosted the last Republican debate at his hotel in Vegas and I was honored to be sitting right near him.

I’ve always seen Newt Gingrich as a potentially great politician.

It’s just a question of his willingness to sublimate his personal agenda to the good of the country.

I don’t gamble. But I know people who have lost their homes, their marriages from Gambling. It also reminds me of Uncle Bill Bennett, who wrote a book about family values, only to be exposed as a frequent gambler. Didn’t hear much out of Uncle Bill after that.

Newt set up a few attacks on Romney, but the MSM wouldn’t let it gain any traction and would switch to other candidates after. They’re protecting Romney a bit—I notice the media is okay so long as they’re the ones attacking Romney, but they make it difficult to let other candidates attack Romney much.
