Smarty,....I have a Dept. manager like that. I learned to speak up when comments were as you depicted. I might have said when she complained about the copier. “Well, it would have been nice to hear you say welcome back and how is your mother doing.” They do get it and it often stops them in their tracks.
My manger is a moody individual...if she’s miserable you hear it in her tone...if she’s being silly and playful...that too. But when it comes to being compassionate it’s a matter more of how whatever is happening is affecting her...it’s rarely about the employee aside from that.
If I was a younger person I’d leave.
However the way things are, I don’t want to be job hunting just now.
Actually, I think my boss is pathetic. She is very attached to her hatred for me. It is so nauseating. I wish she’d find someone else to hate!! It must be pure magic at her house.

Your last sentence is remarkable for its brevity and insight. With your permission, and attribution if desired, I would like to use it as an introduction when discussing ideology with others. I also think that it succinctly indicates how liberals get drawn in to leftism. What they don’t realize is that getting out is very difficult.
Lemme tell you whut. Anyone that touts their "enlightenment" - ain't. Some are on that path, but the really rare ones to actually attain enlightenment would never say so.
