Earlier today, the Politco reported that while campaigning in South Carolina, Newt Gingrich appeared to be backing off his attacks on Mitt Romney's career at Bain Capital. But spokesman R.C. Hammond has just sent around the following email denying any backing off:
Newt 2012 released the following statement from Press Secretary R.C. Hammond responding to misleading reports on an exchange Newt Gingrich had with a voter in Spartanburg, SC regarding Mitt Romneys record at Bain Capital (during which the phrase I crossed the line was never uttered from Newt, despite the headline from Politico):
This issue at hand is neither about Bain Capital, private equity firms, nor about capitalism. It is about Mitt Romneys judgment and character. It was Governor Romneys decision to base his candidacy, in large part, on his background as a portfolio manager. Thus, it is entirely legitimate to ask questions about whether he is accurately presenting how he conducted himself during that career.
Reports by the Wall Street Journal and others contradict Governor Romney's claims that it was his goal at Bain Capital to make companies more successful. In fact, there were cases where Bain Capital made huge profits and left companies bankrupt. Further reports have cast doubt on Governor Romney's claim that he was responsible for 100,000 jobs being created thanks to his work at Bain Capital.
Instead of accepting the responsibility to answer questions about his business background, the Romney campaign is throwing up a smokescreen about an attack on capitalism. Thats just more pious baloney from Mitt Romney and his campaign.

DFWGator,
There's substantial evidence (as reported by the Wall Street Journal) that Mitt Romney-Bain Capital "did in fact" financially "rape and pillage" some corporations ...
WITHOUT A THOUGHT to cleaning up their business.
Care to argue with Wall Street Journal about that ?
Newt Ginrich's Press Release today (2012-01-11) about Mitt Romney and Bain Captital's "Vulture Capitalism" ....

As usual, Newt Gingrich "nailed it" perfectly ...
We're now (breathlessly) waiting for Mitt Romney's response ...
... including releasing his Federal Income Tax Returns ...

Good.
After seeing Kingofbain.com, I'd vote for Ron Paul over slimy Mitt. And to think I used to like him.

Newt needs to stick to his guns, he was right the first time, and he knows it.

TheHill.com is reporting that Romney on CBS today said that what he did with Bain Capital is no different than what Obama did in taking over the auto companies.
Rombama? It that's the choice, in 2012 we're already doomed to 4 more years.

In fact, there were cases where Bain Capital made huge profits and left companies bankrupt. The biggest problem with this is it makes a pejorative out of the word "profit." There are real criticisms to be made on some of the deals.
For instance, the Purchase of Worldwide Grinding Systems in KC turned into a debacle in part due to poor management and personnel placement. It's fair to say Bain, under Romney's leadership, placed incompetent people in high positions, leading to business failure. It would translate into what kind of Cabinet appointments he may make and what judgement he may show.
I'd be more concerned if Bain were buying companies and taking huge loss after huge loss. Demonizing profit leads us down the Elizabeth Warren path.

Normally a Rino would retract, back down & apologize. Newt’s our best hope at this point. Little Ricky Santorum would have already sent Mitt a box of chocolates and nice note.

Gingrich is trying to save the GOP from making a huge mistake in anointing Mitt. The Emperor has no clothes, and he will take the GOP down with him if he is the nominee.

Mark Levin just said that Gingrich and Perry should get out of the race because of their comments on free markets and Romney! And further that Santorum is the one that understands the role of market based business in a free society!!Mark's show is available for streaming in three hours at his link. http://marklevinshow.com/sectional.asp?id=32930
