Mitt Romney, whose second-place finish in South Carolinas Republican primary on Saturday handed him his second defeat in three state contests, said the GOP could not take back the White House relying on a candidate who had waged a frontal assault on free enterprise a square shot at primary winner Newt Gingrich.
Romney, who was trailing Newt Gingrich on Saturday night, used his concession speech to strike back at Gingrichs attacks for Romneys tenure at Bain Capital and reluctance to release his tax returns, questioning whether such criticism disqualified Gingrich for the party nomination.
Our party cannot be led to victory by someone who also has never run a business, and never run a state, Romney said. We cannot defeat [Obama] with a candidate who has joined in that very assault on free enterprise.
If his rivals joined Democratic attacks, Romney said, Theyre not going to be fit to be our nominee.
He added: The Republican Party doesnt demonize prosperity; we celebrate success in our party.

I was fine with all of Newt’s attacks on Romney, except for when he used Occupy talking points.
If Gingrich is the nominee, that will come back to haunt him.
except that he never did make a ‘frontal assault’ on free enterprise...
Remember how everyone once thought Palin was so awesome because of her ‘executive experience’? We don’t hear that phrase used anymore...
Thay’s exactly when Romney reminded me of Obama:
missing the point, going off on a weak rant, and thinking he’s being clever.
It was chilling.
“If Gingrich is the nominee, that will come back to haunt him.”
No it won’t and Romney just showed a lack of class
Unlike Romney's continuing support of Romneycare?
Or Romney having donated to Democrats?
Or, get this, Romney having denounced the classical Republican view on corporations?
Romney showed a complete lack of class. I was flabbergasted. But he is the principle architect of the Romney Sleaze Machine that has been in operation since 2006 (if not earlier), so I should not be surprised.
Yeah when you lose big, don’t attack the winner in your concession speech.
There are plenty of reasons to attack Romney. But attack him from the right instead of the left.
WELL!.. after being “cold cocked”.... you must say something I guess..
Being the Speaker of the House in the turbulent 90s and being who he is, and doing what he does, eliminates the concerns that we have about lesser lights like Bachmann.
If you want to say that Romney’s failure as a Governor, and his destruction of his states party, and his leaving with 34% approval helps him, go at it.
I think you are looking at that all wrong. But your weak attempt to associate criticism of the activities of corporate raiders with Occupy Wall Street belie your hidden agenda.
As for Bain Capital, they're fair game. They donate almost exclusively to Democrats and so far for this election cycle they have donated over $350,000 to the Democratic Party and the DCCC. They're also a top donor to Al Franken. I think that sort of activity needs to be brought out into the light of day. Too many big businesses in this country sidle up to the socialists in the Democratic Party and thereby make miserable for people like me who run a small business.
Big businesses like Bain Capital and Goldman Sachs are fair game in this election and they need to be made aware of that.
Newt didn’t use “Occupy talking points”.
Leveraged buyouts that siphon off assets while loading the target company with debt is hardly above criticism.
Except perhaps to those who couldn’t describe the difference between venture capital and an LBO, which seems to be a large number of those squawking that any such criticism is “an attack on Capitalism!”
2010: Newt for for Romney and Romneycare...before he was against it..

Ridiculous. What Mitt did with Bain Capital had nothing to do with “celebrating prosperity.”
SORELOSERMITT!
Flop Sweat. Big Time.
It was Mitt staffer's hired by McCain leaking crap to the MSM about Palin.
