California's prison officers union is getting a loan from taxpayers – interest-free – to settle a multimillion-dollar debt it owes the state.

The deal sealed on Wednesday closes the books on what the Department of Mental Health and the Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation said was at least $4.5 million the California Correctional Peace Officers Association owed for wages and benefits paid to CCPOA leaders while they were away from their state jobs tending to union business.

CCPOA, which represents about 30,000 correctional and parole officers, refused to settle the so-called "union paid leave" tab that has been running since 2005, . . .

They pay state employees to do union work? Is that in their job description? I think there are some crooks on the other side of the bars.

The prison guards and teacher unions have done more to ruin California’s finances than anyone else.

Arnold the half-Democrat made a weak effort to do something about them, but gave up after losing the first battle. Jerry Brown will give them everything they want, he’s trying to raise our already very high taxes so he can continue the payoffs.

IIRC about 1/3 of people in CA receive some form of welfare. Add to that the millions who are employees of the government at all levels or are employed by businesses that receive government money and you see why the RATS own this state.

After the disaster re the government employees unions in Ohio, I am not optimistic about the recall of Scott Walker in WI.

The union bosses have huge money to fund campaigns and bribe politicians. They got about $1000 a year from each government employee. Until conservatives loosen their wallets and contribute to politicians and organizations who are more favorable to the taxpayers, we will continue this slide.

Here in CA, trying to elect Republicans is a long shot but there are great organizations like the Howard Jarvis taxpayers association HJTA.org and Pacific Legal Foundation that represent us and put some kind of brake on the sellout of the state.
