Global Warming vs. affordable inhalers: An inconvenient truth
Washington Times ^ | January 28, 2012 | by Bob Siegel

The pharmacist seemed sympathetic to my plight. Sadly, he explained that Primatene Mist (an over the counter inhaler for asthmatics) had been taken off the market.

I was not surprised.

Certainly many doctors have warned people of Primatene’s potential side effects. Oddly enough, medical concerns had nothing to do with its removal. Instead the pharmacist started talking about Global Warming.

In denial, I jumped on the internet, hoping against hope that the pharmacist had somehow been mistaken. Instead I found an AP article from late 2011.

“Asthma patients who rely on over-the-counter inhalers will need to switch to prescription-only alternatives as part of the federal government's latest attempt to protect the Earth's atmosphere."

"The Food and Drug Administration said Thursday patients who use the epinephrine inhalers to treat mild asthma will need to switch by Dec. 31 to other types that do not contain chlorofluorocarbons, an aerosol substance once found in a variety of spray products."

"The action is part of an agreement signed by the U.S. and other nations to stop using substances that deplete the ozone layer, a region in the atmosphere that helps block harmful ultraviolet rays from the Sun."

Ironically, many of the same people concerned about Global Warming also insist on our need to have “affordable health care for all.” In that vein, one wonders how many individuals have been breathing more easily without the time and expense of doctor visits due to a convenient over the counter alternative.

Primatene Mist was hardly a large scale source ~ as these things go.

I think the interest here was on the part of NIH people who want asthmatics to suffer.

We have the same deal going in their recent development of an improved "diet". These guys refused to bend on "whole grains" preferring to kill children with Celiac or gluten intolerance rather than give up their superstitious beliefs concerning wholewheat, whole barley and whole rye products and byproducts.

I expect they'll turn their attention next to retinal surgery where heavy chloro-fluro-carbon products are used to assist opthamalogic surgeons to "steer" and "move" torn and detached retinas back into place.

They will again use AGW as an excuse for allowing an increase in blindness.

America already has a relatively high level of blindness. The people ruling on these matters are Fascist Pigs.

This affected more that standard rescue inhalers.

If you have exercise induced asthma and need a different formulation to prevent the asthma attack, that formulation isn’t available anywhere at any price.

Instead we’re provided with the rescue inhaler, which is much less effective.

I expect they'll turn their attention next to....

The list is endless. I was reminded of this the other day when I was in a store that sold paintball supplies. I asked the fellow behind the counter whether the CO2 police were by yet....he said no but they are on the lookout and expect them any day.

Armstrong Pharmaceuticals, Inc. is actively finalizing its internal development of a
new,CFC-Free replacement for Primatene
Mist that will continue to use
epinephrine as its active ingredient but will use a more environmentally friendly
propellant(known as HFA, or hydrofluoroalkane).

Forget global warming - it's Cycle 25 we need to worry about (and if NASA scientists are right the Thames will be freezing over again)

“Obama: Making Americans poorer, one law at a time.”

Yes, but this is even better; because people are likely to do without this medicine because they can no longer afford it, it also saves on long-term health care costs and Social Security. A triple play! You have to give them some credit...for being the best evil that can be.

Replacing an over-the-counter for a prescription-only. Of course it’s about the power.

There are already plans underway to replace this use of CO2 with compressed unicorn farts.

Not only do the new inhalers cost about 30 dollars more, they don’t propel as well. So my son needs multiple squirts for the same effect as the cheap, CFC inhalers.

“I bought a 3 year supply of primatene from drugstore .com in 2011.”

Hopefully, things will change by then. I have read that most Republican candidates have promised to roll back every single regulation, and whomever wins, they need to be held to this.

In any event, best of luck to you in 2015!

I know I'm going to catch it for this, but I have to mention that THC, the active ingredient in marijuana, has a beta2 adrenergic bronchodilating effect greater in degree and duration than Alupent and many other bronchodilators, with minimal beta1 cardiac effects. Don't take my word for it; Google it or check out this clinical trial:

http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC470501/?tool=pmcentrez&page=1

I have known many people who use it therapeutically for breathing problems, or as a standby when inhalers run out. Just an FYI...I'm not a missionary...LOL
