Years ago, our older neighbors here in the desert invited us over on New Years Eve......they had a roaring fire going in the fireplace; I noticed that the wood was his oleander cuttings, so we 'excused' ourselves after just a few minutes and came back home.
Good thing they had good drafting, because the fumes are indeed also toxic.
