One of the projects I support has funding to set up a whole slew of new servers, and an EMC2 mass storage system with 2 Peta bytes of storage. At the rate they are going, I think they’ll fill that up even before they finish installing all the hardware.
The crazy thing is, because they are replacing ancient SGI “supercomputers”, servers, mass storage units and huge tape backup machines, the new systems will actually need less power and produce less heat than what they had running as recently as 2008.
