You are so correct - a yellow lab. I should know better; I had a combo black lab-golden retreiver mix for fourteen years! A fence jumper got into the back yard of the pure bread golden and I took one of the litter - a very healthy hybrid, black in color with one white star on his chest. He loved everyone, carried everything in his soft mouth, but his tail would knock over small children. And his loud, full throated bark kept away door-to-door solicitors.
Awww. They have common ancestry, so they probably make a decent mix. I prefer the golden, in general not as stubborn and easier to train, however they can be softer so that has it’s own set of problems, especially in a working dog, but it just depends (and the coat of course can be an issue). Fourteen years, nice. My oldest golden has only lasted 13, I hope my current 2 will give me a few more than that. Both are middle aged now.
Made me laugh about the tail. My other breed is dock tailed and I will say, sometimes that’s really nice, they don’t clear the coffee table of everything when they get excited! :)
