Rick Santorum has opened up a double-digit lead over rival Mitt Romney in Gallup's latest daily tracking poll.

The survey finds Santorum with support from 36 percent of registered Republicans nationally, topping Romney at 26 percent.

Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich (Ga.) follows at 13 percent, with Texas Rep. Ron Paul at 11 percent support.

We’ll show them. Hang in there. This Romney feller can be taken down a few notches. I for one will relish it.

Dude. This poll is a week old.

Santorum is down by at least 10 points by now.

After his debate,..Goodness, no wonder the people on Palin’s facebook are a having a fit that Ricky is getting away with his voting record along with pleading with her to either get in or to endorse Newt. Don’t tell me that everyone is excited by Ricky. There was a tweet on Twitter earlier from a former journalist saying Mitt or Rick could not beat Obama; for us to study the words of the candidates. People need to slow down and save our country; Newt is giving us warnings.

...its clear to me that Newt is the only one who is capable of leadership.

Unfortunately for you, he is incapable of winning an election.

WOW! A twit from some nobody saying Rick won't beat Obummer. Well. Now there is something we should all listen to. I am writing Ricks campaign right away to tell them to drop out. It is all over, obviously.

It's that so-called "conservatives" and "christians" and "republicans" BELIEVED Willard's nauseating crap in the first place ...

and voted for that "Evil Mormon" (carefully chosen words) turd ...

Should Santorum pull it off in MI, this would be seismic. This a 2-man race. It’s gonna be Santorum or Romney. Gingrich is painfully making it easier for Romney to win in both AZ and MI. Santorum exudes a sense of stability and is not given to making erratic and bombastic comments. It’s not just the economy, it’s the culture stupid. Let the NEA and NPR go private, build up America’s manufacturing heritage in the digital age, end sanctuary cities.

The numbers you posted show a 2-point lead, not a 5-point lead.

Here’s some other Gallup numbers:

December 16: Gingrich 37%, Romney 22%.
January 14 : Gingrich 14%, Romney 37%
January 24 : Gingrich 31%, Romney 27%.
February 26: Gingrich 15% (-22), Romney 31 (+9)

In GOOD news for conservatives, Santorum is statistically tied with Obama (49%/48%)

I think they understand — it means the democrats think Romney would be the strongest candidate in November, so they are trying to stop Romney by picking Santorum.

The question is, do you agree with them, or are you happy that they are helping us stop Romney.

Because it seems like too many people here at FR are losing sight of the “stop Romney” part of the equation.

Not sure I understand your post. Gingrich has not campaigned in either Michigan or Arizona to give Santorum the edge in the “not Romney” vote. He certainly is not waging this strategy to help Romney.

Dems are voting Santorum in Michigan because they think he will be easier to beat than Romney.

If so, the Dems are in for a big surprise. Santorum as nominee will energize the base, sweep the south, and carry most if not all of the rust-belt states and won’t be carrying the RomneyCare albatross around his neck. He is in today’s USA-Gallup leading Obama by a point or two.

But none of the polls or articles I’ve seen has referenced Dems voting for Santorum- so what’s the source for this?

Huffington Post was sponsoring a sort of Operation Chaos. It seems to really be big in the Detroit area. I heard about it on radio (local talk radio). Memphis is a big Democrat stronghold, and I listen to a station from there.

The rest of my area of the state is strongly Republican.

I think once we are through tomorrows races, Santorum’s record is going to get a real airing in the South. His strong support of unions and big spending are not going to play well with a lot of southern conservatives.
