Rick Santorum quiet on economy

CHICAGO — On the issue Republicans tell pollsters is the most important of 2012, Rick Santorum these days has very little to say.

His typical stump speech, an almost hour-long mixture of Orwellian fears of government overreach, history lessons about the French and Middle Eastern revolutions and suggestions that President Barack Obama would rather side with Islamists than Americans, has evolved into a tour de force of building fear in his listeners.

Since winning primaries in Alabama and Mississippi, Santorum’s standard remarks have generally excluded an economic plan — the heart and soul of the message his chief GOP rival, Mitt Romney, repeats at event after event, day after day.

On Monday afternoon, Santorum revived talk of his jobs plan and renewing the manufacturing sector, but added: “I don’t care what the unemployment rate’s going to be…My campaign doesn’t hinge on unemployment rates and growth rates. It’s something more foundational going on.”

“We have one nominee who says he wants to run the economy. What kind of conservative says that the president runs the economy?” Santorum asked. “We conservatives generally think that government doesn’t create jobs.”

During two events in the Chicago suburbs on Friday and in a handful of Sunday appearances in Louisiana, primarily at churches — Santorum didn’t once mention jobs without being prodded by a questioner. (Snip)

Following his strong performance in Iowa, Santorum touted himself as a blue-collar Republican, one who could most empathize with unemployed Americans. He spoke often of his plans to deliver policies that would lead to more manufacturing jobs while campaigning in Ohio and in the South, but in the last week when Santorum mentions the economy at all it’s to say that it may not be the most important issue of the election.

The media is eagerly playing fresh clips of both Willard and Santorum talking about the economy improving.

We started out with a field of Republican candidates that showed some evidence of strength. Maybe not a lot of strength, but some people with track records, accomplishments, and ability to sell themselves to voters. The media made sure that all of those people got out of the race.

The media has left us with a hodge podge of basically unelectable candidates.

So, why is Rick Santorum quiet on economy?

Because he thinks his conservative base does not accept a Federal Government planned economy in the first place. As he meant to say, if we have freedom (from a Federal Government Soviet style micromanaged planned economy) the nations economy prospers and the “unemployment statistics” are not something we need to worry about.

Why is Romney so quiet on his 59-point planned economy?

The media has the economy improving. What a candidate needs to do is differentiate themselves from the other candidates. Newt is talking economy so Santourm is talking other things. I think it is a brilliant strategy as proof of his incredible amount of wins under his belt. If Santorum was not winning all these many states, then I would want him to change his topics to economy, but since he is winning numerous amounts of states, he needs to keep going the way he is. Not a thing wrong with talking about other topics than economy. Santorum is BRILLIANT!

Way to go, Psycho. Post a sly, nasty article about Santorum from the much-beloved Politico.

You all may remember Politico from the Herman Cain days. How we loved them then and they just get better and better.

My advice to Psycho and his numerous ilk that I see here daily.

Keep posting mainsream articles critical about Santorum. Add your comments about how stupid and clueless he is.

Rest your arm occasionally from patting yourselves on the back for being so PURE.

Keep this up until Romney is nominated.

Then declare that you won’t be voting because you can’t vote for Romney.

Sit back and enjoy the country being destroyed by Mr. and Mrs. Obama (and wasn’t she just adorable on Letterman last night).

We’ll know who to blame.

Newt certainly is not. Newt knows the damage that has been done, while both Santorum and Romney are Washington Inside Morons.

The tell tale indicator that the economy is on the verge of melting down, is runaway inflation. The FED kept manipulating it, for so long, (Quantitative Easing) that they have done irreparable damage. Once the economy even hints that it wants to recover, rapid inflation will immediately surface as a reaction to all the insane things, this Government has been doing.

Now, we are at the point where there is no stopping it.

Many FREEPERS bashed Cain in his 999 plan and bashed Bachmann with her 2 dollar gas idea....she was viciously attacked about the 2 dollar gas. You get what you sow.

Exactly. There are deep rooted problems that go far beyond the unemployment rate. The unemployment rate is just a symptom.

comment taken out of context, as is becoming the norm for the SDS crowd

Some of us do believe and appreciate a man who sees that the gasping economy, a system of millions of individual and collective choices and decisions every day, is a symptom of a much deeper problem here.... a clash of fundamental political ideologies, values, and beliefs in the role of government in American life.

Good lockstep socialists and communists literally HATE capitalism for its millions of daily free individual choices, and its tendency to reward winners. Socialism and communism are built by envy, scorn, and power and control over individual free choices.

And THAT is a greater problem than the economy.

The MEdia is choosing and parsing Santorum quotes to build an image of him as a fundie with no ideas beyond social comments and religion

Hmm, where have we seen this manipulation before?

The MEdia is choosing to be silent on reporting what Santorum says about the economy, but you have to be able to find coverage of his full speeches to prove it. Good Luck with that.

Modern campaigns on run on sound bites
Made-up, deliberately distorted sound bites
I’m not sure even Sarah Palin figured out how to counter that, except maybe with Facebook and Twitter

Santorum says the ‘economy isn’t the most important issue” and I tend to agree with him. The ‘most important issue’ it seems to me is to get rid of the liberals out of gov’t and then deal with the subsets such as: economy, judicial, spending, gov’t regulation, etc.

Now is Santorum that person, I’m not sure he is but at least he’s in the mix at this time.

Truth hurts a bit, doesn’t it?

Was there one word I said in that post that wasn’t true?

I didn’t think so.

Santorum is BRILLIANT!

Right, and pigs fly south every winter, while Leprechauns make you rich from all the Gold that you find at the end of their Rainbows.

You are absolutely right. For the record, my support has moved from Palin to Bachmann to Cain to Gingrich to Santorum to Gingrich and with each move my enthusiasm has diminished.

Politico hit piece alert!

A serious political study, like you Psycho, should have been able to resist this.

See, that is why I can’t leave it to the experts.

LOL!

You went from a fanatical, rabid, vicious Palin groupie, to Cain, and now Santorum, right down to the “SDS” mantra. And you kept all the extreme, obsessive, compulsive, offensive attack behavior every time you changed.

You are all too transparent, and it does not serve your candidate in any way.

Everthing you say is spot on. All the way down to the “no Romney, no way crowd”, but they will change their minds on that when Newt gets a position in the Romney admin.

They will say that Rick was no better than Romney. Lets not mention Romney isn’t pro life and the guy that helped craft the framwork that is Obamacare. Geesh
