Even if Boehner and McConnell packed their bags tomorrow, there’s no way in hell the Republicans would allow someone with the guts to stand up to Mitt Romney to take their place.
If Romney decided to nominate another flaming liberal to the SCOTUS, for instance, the GOP would at best only allows token opposition, like Nancy Pelosi did for the Blue Dogs during the vote on Obamacare. Their influence was powerful enough to make even Allen West support their rotten debt ceiling deal.
