Obama warns 'unelected' Supreme Court against striking down health law

President Obama, employing his strongest language to date on the Supreme Court review of the federal health care overhaul, cautioned the court Monday against overturning the law -- while repeatedly saying he's "confident" it will be upheld.

I had the same reaction.

You could tell he was pissed off.

And why is not one single reporter shoving it in his face that he campaigned against the mandate in 2008?

Ya, supposed the Supreme Court strikes it down, but the administration still continues implementing the law?

Or if not the entire law, but just certain parts are striken down, the administration will just pretend this court case never happened, and dare anyone to take action contrary to what they are doing.

Almost certain 5-4, unlikely but possible 6-3. Almost impossible 7-2.

You do not understand the depth of liberalism and how it corrupts people to do the wrong thing despite seeing the right thing in front of their faces. Seeing the right thing makes them more adamant to do the wrong thing, just to defy those telling them to do the right thing. I do it because I can and I want to, eff you. That is liberalism.

And it’s also the condition of mankind towards God. But that’s a bigger issue than what we’re yakking about here.

Per wiki.answers between 1789 and 2002 the supreme court declared 158 laws by Congress unconstitutional. Hardly unprecedented.

The 2 he appointed are only there to do his bidding. They’ll worry about independence after he’s out.

If the Congress passed a law that was unconstitutional, then it should be overturned.

I am sure Kagan has informed him of the result and which Justices might be “changeable”

All superb points. Especially...

“A Court REWRITING A LAW is Judicial activism as they are not the Legislature.”

Oh, the irony...NOT. A deliberate leftist tactic. Their best hope is that SCOTUS would rewrite the law.”

Is that not what the leftist judges were essentially proposing if the individual mandate were to be struck down?

Obama, et al. knew it was unconstitutional from the beginning.

In the oral arguments:

Kagan was politicking;

Ginsberg was saying, “There are some good parts of the law we must uphold even if the mandate would be deemed unconstitutional”;

And Sotomayor ...in a world of her own... and totally ignorant of the basic fact that it is illegal for hospitals to turn away emergency-room patients (even though her brother is an intelligent, well-respected MD).

The other dimension of this he will run on, is “elect me and I will fix the court.” Because when libs do judicial activism, it’s not judicial activism. Lots of the libs are hanging on from retiring, and the conservatives are getting older too.

Which reminds me, pray for the conservatives on SCOTUS to stay healthy and vibrant, and to keep a sharp, sound mind.

“I wonder if she really knows American law?”

Obviously not!

Most people who have ever been to an emergency room know that NO ONE can be turned away! They also know who pays for those that can’t pay. Justice Dumb*ss doesn’t seem to have a clue.

“John Roberts has made his decision, now let him enforce it.”

Except that when "the Secretary shall" starts being invoked, a whole lot of parties will start shoving back and telling Sebelius to "bite me".

The Catholic Church will refuse to obey orders to provide birth control.

Private health insurers will stop complying with all mandates. If they ain't getting 50 million new paying customers at gunpoint, they're out of the game.

etc.

I am looking forward to the day we evict this arrogant
pr!ck and his ugly wife from OUR White House. I also hope that the day he leaves is the last day we ever hear from him.

“This has been a long standing Dem tactic. Make an absurd claim, then push it as truth. “

To wit, Trayvon Martin. I hope Spike Lee, Sharpton, Jackson, Obama, and NBC all get sued by Zimmerman. And lose big time. NBC went back to their fake truck explosion roots on this one the way they spliced the 911 call they aired.

“This reaction sounds like a bit of a freakout, indicating that he has lost and lost big.”

As someone pointed out upthread, he could have won bigtime and is NOW talking tough, so when the decision is announced, people will see it was Barry who straightened the court out.

Politicians frequently come down on the side of inevitability, and if they can be seen as part of that inevitability, they gain in perceived power.

Like Romney endorsing a state candidate after they win the primary.

unlikely but possible 6-3

I think it's very possible. If it's going down anyhow, Kagan will likely flip and join the majority, just so that they can deflect any future calls for her to recuse herself.
