EU to ban hairdressers from wearing high-heeled shoes or jewellery

Hairdressers will be banned from wearing high heels and jewellery under proposals being drawn up in Brussels.

A health and safety directive orders stylists to wear ‘non-slip soles’ when they are cutting hair and bans wedding rings and watches as unhygienic.

The plans will see hairdressers told not to let staff do too many haircuts in one day to prevent ‘emotional collapses’.

And the bizarre rules will tell salon workers to have a regular ‘social dialogue’ – code for gossipy chats – to encourage ‘mental wellbeing’ in the workplace.

The National Hairdressers’ Federation warns the plans will cost the UK industry £3million a year in wasted time and red tape.

The agreement is due to be signed this month between EU Coiffure, a group of European salon bosses, and UNI Europa Hair & Beauty, a union for European hairdressers.

Both groups are ‘social partners’ of the European Commission and will submit the deal to Brussels to become an EU-wide directive binding on all 27 states.

That’s fine, but what rules will apply to the female hairdressers?

This is how the collective usurps power, we are seeing
it in our schools, our communities, and our government.

And what makes you think we are not. It certainly isn’t the America I grew up in.

When bizarre things are passed as normal, there is something deeply wrong with the society. It usually means that the place is on the verge of being upended.

What would you expect from the same people who took an English fruit vendor to court for selling bananas by the pound instead of the kilo?

I think we have a new winner in the latest “stupid” contest. The EU has taken the top prize again. Congratulations to the collective.

Well, 3 snaps on this one, girlfriend. Where are the Wayan brothers when you need them? Remember the hairdressers? Only black men could get away with acting gay without being lashed to the post and pilloried.

Regulations are there to protect you, my friend. In this zany world, we should be thankful that governments are looking out for our safety with such diligence. Exhibit A, EU Commission Regulation (EC) No 2257/94 of 16 September 1994:

Bananas sold as unripened, green bananas should be green and unripened, firm and intact, fit for human consumption, not rotten, clean, free of pests and damage from pests, free from deformation or abnormal curvature, free from bruising, free of any foreign smell or taste. The minimum size (with tolerances and exceptions) is a length of 14 cm and a thickness (grade) of 2.7 cm. Minimum standards are established for specific quality classifications of bananas (Extra, Class I, Class II). Only Extra class bananas have to comply fully with the shape specifications. Class II bananas, for instance are permitted to have "defects of shape"; Class I bananas are permitted only "slight defects of shape". This is not true, however, of the size specifications; sale of bananas below the minimum size is almost always prohibited (with exceptions only for bananas from a few regions where bananas are traditionally smaller).

Maybe we need Extra, Class I, and Class II certifications for hairdressers. Class II could wear high heels, chain smoke cigarettes, and dispense with unnecessary social dialogue while cutting hair.
