Email from Nadia Lockyer account claims Treasurer Bill Lockyer supplied her with drugs

The tragic unraveling of Alameda County Supervisor Nadia Lockyer took a disturbing turn this week when a message from her personal email account landed in a reporter's in-box: Her husband, California's Treasurer Bill Lockyer, the message claimed, bought and gave her drugs years before she met her drug-addicted former lover. .

In an apparent call for help, the message also said she could no longer stand the torture and harassment of the ex-lover who she says beat her in a motel room two months ago.

"I simply can't bear this any longer,'' the email said. "Goodbye to everyone.''

Fearing for her safety, the newspaper immediately called police and forwarded the email to Nadia Lockyer's chief of staff and to her 70-year-old husband's office. Police found her safe at the family home Wednesday afternoon in the Hayward hills.

When a reporter arrived a short time later, Lockyer, 40, said through a door slightly ajar that she had not sent the email.

She said that her former boyfriend Steven Chikhani -- a 35-year-old San Jose man she met in rehab and later visited in jail -- had been hacking into her account. Hayward Police say they are "evaluating whether her email was fraudulently accessed.'' A spokesman for Bill Lockyer called the accusations about him obtaining drugs for his wife "completely, totally, utterly false.''

Chikhani's lawyer Adrienne Dell, said Thursday there's no truth to the claim that Chikhani hacked into Nadia Lockyer's email, and that this isn't the first time Lockyer has made such a claim. She wouldn't elaborate.

Chikhani and Nadia Lockyer's steamy and tumultuous affair -- fueled by drugs, alcohol and rumored sex tapes -- blew up in February when she called police from a Newark motel claiming he beat her up -- an accusation the Attorney General's office is still investigating. Ever since, both sides have engaged in a public war, sharing intimate text messages, recordings and photographs with the media.

The email that arrived from Nadia Lockyer's Rocketmail account Wednesday linked her husband for the first time to her addiction: "Bill bought and gave me drugs years before meeting Steve, then called me crazy when I sought help, thus, I had to take matters into my own hands and was set up by Steve.''

A titan among California's Democrats, Bill Lockyer has never been linked to drugs over a political career that spanned four decades, including 25 years in the Legislature and two terms as attorney general, the state's top cop.

Asked whether Bill Lockyer has at any time in his life possessed, used or otherwise had any illicit contact with a controlled substance, his spokesman Tom Dresslar replied, "Like a lot of people of his generation, he experimented in his younger days. Those younger days have long since passed and the experiment has long been over. He has never abused drugs."

While Chikhani's criminal record includes a 2010 conviction for possessing methamphetamine, Nadia Lockyer had never before been specific about using drugs in the past. When she took a leave of absence Feb. 14 from her supervisor's job to enter rehab, she issued a statement about "receiving treatment for chemical dependency and chronic pain from a past debilitating car accident. Alcohol and addiction are diseases from which many of us suffer and unfortunately I have not been spared.''

The stunning new email, which arrived Wednesday afternoon, was part of an email string that spanned two weeks between Lockyer and a Mercury News reporter, who had been offering the scandal-plagued supervisor a chance to sit down and tell her story. Lockyer acknowledged crafting parts of Wednesday's email but said "everything in regards to my husband was all added.''

When asked what she meant, she explained: "I drafted part of it, but it sounds like he's hacked into prior emails,'' she said referring to Chikhani. "He's acting like he's me.''

The email arrived in the reporter's in-box at 1:05 p.m. Wednesday:

"I cannot bear the torture of Steve Chikhani's harassment in my life any longer. My son has suffered far too much and his harassment is now unbearable. I am the victim of a violent crime - yet he is still free and we suffer. My husband has refused to allow our personal funds be used for a private investigator. Bill bought and gave me drugs years before meeting Steve, then called me crazy when I sought help, thus, I had to take matters into my own hands and was set up by Steve. I simply can't bear this any longer. Goodbye to everyone.''

Hours later, peeking through her front door, Lockyer acknowledged writing -- but not sending -- the parts of the email about her personal agony. She said she didn't mean to suggest she was going to hurt herself but rather leave town to get away from Chikhani and his friends.

"Now I likely will have to leave the area,'' said Lockyer, who on Thursday was back at work and chaired a meeting of the Alameda County Public Protection Committee. "His friends are following me.''

She said she suspected they were tracking her through her phone's GPS -- and that she had changed her phone number and replaced her phones. Still, she is convinced that one of Chikhani's friends followed her earlier this week to a campground. She said she was most concerned about keeping her 8-year-old son safe.

During the interview at her door, she said she wouldn't invite the reporter inside because she was meeting at the time with a private investigator. When asked about the assertion in the email that Bill Lockyer had refused to use the family's funds to hire an investigator, Nadia Lockyer said her husband had now changed his mind.

When asked about the allegation that her husband supplied her with drugs, Lockyer would only say that those were Chikhani's claims.

She politely shut the door, saying she needed to leave for an outpatient rehab appointment.

Chikhani, meanwhile, has been sequestered in a residential treatment program for weeks, his lawyer said. He is supervised and must ask an administrator for Internet access, Dell said.

"Steve is trying to get past this and live in sobriety," Dell said, adding Lockyer's claim -- that she drafted an unsent e-mail, which was then modified and sent by someone else -- just doesn't add up. "I can't imagine he's calling somebody or doing it himself ... does that make any sense? Even say he did have access, say he wasn't in recovery — what's the likelihood he would do that?"

Cyber security experts say hacking into somebody's email is simple enough if the hacker knows the person's password -- or knows enough about the person to guess it. When it comes to jealous lovers, that's always a possibility -- and easier than explaining how high-tech cybercrooks hack into government or company secrets.

"All things being equal, the simplest answer is usually the truth,'' said Nick Nikols, an internet security expert with Quest Software. "What's the most likely, that she sent an inflammatory email and regretted it? Or she actually got hacked?''

Because Nadia Lockyer used to work for the Alameda County District Attorney's office, that agency handed off the investigation of the alleged motel assault to the state Justice Department. Asked Thursday whether the Justice Department has been made aware of an allegation that Bill Lockyer had supplied his wife with drugs, spokeswoman Lynda Gledhill replied, "The investigation is ongoing and I can't comment beyond that."

Bill Lockyer was in Los Angeles on Wednesday and unavailable on Thursday and would not speak with a reporter.his spokesman said he would be answering all questions for the treasurer.

"Nadia has told Bill today that she did not send this e-mail, she didn't do it. Whoever sent it, regardless of who, the accusation is totally false, never happened,'' Dresslar said Wednesday.

"She's been through a lot and obviously it's taken a toll, she's still trying to recover."

The couple's nine-year marriage was already rocky before this week's email: They separated for a time last summer; police visited the Lockyer house in August over a family disturbance; one of the couple's arguments led Nadia to the Newark motel in February the night she claims Chikhani assaulted her.

And late last month, Nadia checked into the Castro Valley Inn, telling the manager at the front desk "she needed to get away for a bit.'' She stayed for a few days, asking for the wifi code early one morning.

Last week, the manager Leslie Jee found it odd when a man drove up in a Mini Cooper -- just like the one Nadia had been driving -- and asked for a receipt from her stay. He showed his ID: "It was Bill Lockyer,'' Jee said. "He actually used the excuse he needed a receipt so he could write it off.''

Just this week, the man returned in the Mini Cooper and sat for a while in the parking lot, Jee said.

"I just wish someone would tell me the truth,'' Jee said. "It would be a lot easier to deal with.''

Dresslar said Lockyer confirmed he went to the Castro Valley Inn twice.

"Both times he went,'' Dresslar said, "he was trying to obtain information to help him learn the truth about what was happening in his life."

I suppose the result of all this publicity will be to ensure that the Lockyers are re-elected by the California voters who put them there in the first place.

You get what you vote for.

Side note: Bill Lockyer is the most anti-gun elected politician in California, especially when he was the state Attorney General.

Nadia's private parts seem to be going at Mach One speed. And here we all thought Sandra Flucke's vagina was in high gear.

I like the part where Nadia lied--- pretended to be the guy's lawyer----the only way she could visit him in jail "with no barriers" between them.

Bet the prison guards got an eyeful AND an earful--- Nadia in the throes of passion must be loud and profane. Hearing Nadia cursing out her flacid husband musta been a laugh riot.

She seems to love rough sex----he beat her up in the motel........and she went back for more while he was incarcerated.

Nadia's now known as "the Alameida County Open."

Last week, a man who ID'ed himself as State Treasurer Lockyer, drove up to the motel where Nadia and her lover bedded down---and this week, Lockyer returned. Lockyer confirmed he went to the Castro Valley Inn twice. Then admitted he wanted to obtain information to help him learn the truth about what was happening in his life.....

Okay, Bill, you want the truth about what's happening in your life?

Permit me to spell it out for you.

Firstly your wife is a whore and a liar---who will do anything for a roll in the hay, and she got herself a sex partner who plays rough.

============================================================

Lockyer asked the motel manager for a receipt from Nadia's motl stay saying he needed a receipt so he could "write it off."

Write it off? Nadia paid for the motel?

And now State Treasurer Lockyer (on an expense account) intends to have taxpayers pay for his wife's sex romp?

Castro Valley Inn.
