Laredo man guilty of smuggling 100 aliens from numerous countries

After a three year investigative case and an arrest made in Spring 2011, a Laredo man was found guilty on smuggling 100 undocumented aliens.

On Friday, the jury involved in the case, deemed Jose Rolando Ortiz responsible for transporting and harboring illegal immigrants and possession with the intent to distribute marijuana.

Immigration and Customs Enforcement –Homeland Security Investigations (ICE-HSI), Border Patrol agents, a chemist and undocumented alien witnesses all gave testimonies during the trial.

Some methods Ortiz utilized methods to transport the illegal aliens from Mexico, China, India and the Dominican Republic that endangered their lives.

The 30-year-old did not take the witness stand, but his attorney spoke on his behalf.
