"Imagine taking him for walkies! George the Great Dane is 7ft long, weighs 18st and is the world's biggest dog... but he's terrified of chihuahuas" (Full Title)
The first time we saw George, our beloved Great Dane, he was no more than a tiny, cowering ball of fuzzy fur.
As my wife Christie opened the door of the crate hed travelled in, he teetered to a standing position and looked out at us, moving his head slowly from side to side, taking in the wonder of it all.
Finally, as if weighing us up and deciding we were acceptable, he tentatively pushed his little nose forward and gave Christie her first lick.

Great story for a day when so many bad things are happening. I'm a Daney daddy as of April 19, 2011, and Canute, my Dane, was delivered to the Knkoxville, TN airport about an hour before we were hit by the great hail storm of 2011.
Not only is this a great article, it's an excerpt from Nasser's full length book about his life with Giant George, which is apprioriately named, Giant George. Just to do some pimping, the book's available on Kindle for $11.99.

Bump for fun — I don’t remember who keeps the doggie ping list...

Wonderful story. I had to laugh when I read that he was the “runt of the litter”. The runt?!! I wonder if his brother and sisters are bigger or if he just grew exrra-extra large? Thanks for posting, libstripper!
To: libstripper
A dog so big that even a headline of a story about him is too big to fit.

The man in the sign would have to be replaced with a front end loader to accommodate that dog!

Enjoy your Dane, they are the best dogs(IMO). My 3rd, Lady Mica is the runt. She`s only 150lb. My last male was 190lb. I can imagine having Giant George...lol.

OH, btw, a crib mattress or twin mattress(?) makes a great Dane bed. Most other large dog beds aren`t big enough. Even with those, those legs just dangle off..lol

I’ve just got to love that face. Reminds me of my Dane.

Something much like that happens every time I take mine to the vet. There’s something like, “OOOH,” from the multitude followed by all sorts of laughs.
To: TangoLimaSierra
Looks like a young one; she’s still pretty skinny. Mine’s about a year and a month old, weighs about 110 lb., and loooks like I’ve been starving him even though he gets all the premium dog food he wants.
To: libstripper
That is one big, beautiful ball of love right there.

“He’s terrified of chihuahuas.” - rightfully so. I’ve seen a pack of three chihuahuas take down a grizzly bear. Ferocious little beasts.
