I can give you the simplest evidence that the pay gap myth is indeed a myth. The absence of mass lawsuits with women as the plaintiffs. Do you really think the trial lawyers would allow such a blatant act of discrimination go without lawsuits? Fact is, any vestiges of institutional sex or race discrimination are languishing in small businesses. Large companies can’t afford the risk, and are subject to more scrutiny.
Bingo!!!
Obama brags about how he signed the Lilly Ledbetter law, which liberalizes the time periods for women to file lawsuits on the subject of unequal pay.
Also, the Equal Pay Act of 1963 prohibits discrimination in pay.
Based on my decades of experience in the business world, I can say without hesitation that women and men are paid equally for doing the same work, in companies I have been involved with.
You hit the nail on the head regarding lawsuits. If there was rampant pay discrimination against women in this country, Obama and Eric Holder already have the law and the tools to investigate and back lawsuits on the subject. The fact that they are not doing so, indicates to me that this is not a real problem in the economy.
If some women go into lower paying careers or jobs, that is a separate discussion. If the issue is equal pay for equal work for women, we are there.
Women can be doctors, lawyers, astronauts, policemen, firemen, and just about anything they choose to pursue.
The world has changed fundamentally in recent decades regarding women in our world, but the professionally aggrieved feminist lobby hasn’t heard that news.
