Much of the mission hardware and even the engines are mature systems on the Orion. Same contractor.

I see this program as an issue of proven systems integrated on a new platform.

We had EC-130s with the ABCCC modules in 1972. The only really new thing is the weapons load. The graphic showed stations under the wing and forward in the wheel sponsons.

the P3 is faster, has better climb/descent rates, and almost double the endurance. I don’t see how cargo carrying ability is very significant for a long duration maritime patrol aircraft.

A Navy version of the AC-130U Spooky would be a real surprise to Somali pirates.
