Feds to put up $1.9B for Oregon health overhaul

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) -- The Obama administration is buying into an ambitious health care initiative in Oregon, announcing Thursday it has tentatively agreed to chip in $1.9 billion over five years to help get the program off the ground.

Oregon hopes to prove that states can save billions on Medicaid without sacrificing the quality of health care. Gov. John Kitzhaber's plan would invest in preventive care to keep patients healthy so they don't need expensive hospitalizations.

"If this works, I think other states are going to be looking at this as a way to manage that patient population," said Kitzhaber, a Democrat and former emergency room physician who has worked for decades on reforming the health care system.

Didn’t Barry and the ‘RATS just give the Soviet Socialist State of Oregon $40 million bucks to start a new program where anyone who shows up can have all the food stamps they want with no questions asked? No pesky applications or interviews?

Obama administration has promised 1.5b to Oregon. How nice of them. I wonder how they are going to do this without Congress appropriating the money for this through the budget process.

Budget process? Like the one used by the Senate? Who needs a budget - just print more money...

The point, proponents say, is to provide money for services that keep people healthy but don't get much funding - such as paying caseworkers to make sure patients go to medical appointments and take their medications.

Imagine having a government bureaucrat nagging you to go to your doctor appointments and calling to remind you to take your meds. It's typical leftism and assumes the costs of the additional employees will be outweighed by future reductions in care.

Reductions which can never be proven.

I think they just gave to OK to accept Mexican issued ID for driving license. Strangely I had to produce Birth certificate old driving license and passport along with a current electric bill with the address. They then ask if you want to register to vote, which is all by mail. I wrote in Sarah Pali for President, and my name on all the other offices sense I didn’t know any of them.

I think they just gave to OK to accept Mexican issued ID...

It has been that way but they were supposed to prove legal residence (not sure how). Meanwhile, the burden for non-Mexicans is much higher.

Oregon's "outreach" to recruit Mexicans into the health care, foodstamp, and welfare rolls is second to none.
