The bone-shattering truth: U.S. football is doomed
Chicago Tribune ^ | May 04, 2012 | John Kass

With the apparent suicide of NFL great Junior Seau, who played 20 years in the world's most violently glamorous sport, American football is dying.

It's about time. The nationally televised gambling and meat-rendering factory cannot survive without new players.

And the parents of future players are asking themselves this:

Is football worth it for my child?

After reading the thread. I have come away with Two things. First fags don’t like football, and secondly nothing manly comes out of Chicago.

Well, that 3-down, field wider than God, children’s version, abomination of “Football” played in Canada can and should be killed.

I'm sure that many Canadians feel the same way about our 4-down, field narrower than a parking space, children’s version, abomination of “Football”.

IMO the percentage of mental type injuries among all players is very small, tiny

It's difficult to say, because increased awareness is an element (quite possibly a large factor) in this.

I've heard enough people who know that the players are bigger, faster, stronger than ever before, and the pads and helmets turn the entire body into an airborne weapon.

I'd like to get this turned around before someone dies on the field (as a result of a hit). 2 years ago, Eagles MLB Stewart Bradley took such a shot to the head that he literally staggered towards the wrong sideline, and was back on the field two plays later (I believe he was then benched the rest of the game).

One of the big issues is that every player down to the lowest levels (grade school) have been, and are taught to hit high. How do you suddenly change the game back to where it was in the 60's and 70's? I guess that's why Roger Goodell and his ilk get paid 20 million a year...

This a sad and stupid thread....NFL Football is a choice made by each player (or Mom and Dad...heheheheh), and one which provides me a way to kick as$ vicariously from my couch.

Not to mention Napoleon McCallum’s injury.

“I grew up with a lot of guys who quit playing during high school because they were simply tired of getting beat up.”

Then you attended a wuss high school.

My swim coach was a Guadalcanal Marine veteran and my algebra teacher landed in France on D-Day.

A good number of us signed up in the army and Marine Corps.

My wife and I actually have a good friend who played DT for the DC Divas. It was full contact tackle football. I WOULD NOT want her to tackle me! But I do agree. I have said that in ten years a sack will be recorded when the defensive player removes the flag from the quarterback’s skirt.

Sure it was. But that all began to change in the Sixties. Actually, it was probably the championship game between the Baltimore Colts and The New York Giants that began the swing.

There was a guy who played middle linebacker for the Bears named Dick Butkus who might disagree with you.

Those girls hit the bejeezus out of each other, and yet manage not to fall out their uniforms.

Amazing!

Rush talked about this and predicted it. There was a WSJ article from a giant douche advocating for it that I’m sure a FReeper already linked to.

EVERYTHING liberals and leftists do or advocate violates the law of human nature. That’s why they always fail. We are programmed as humans by evolution to like violence as a sport.

People love college football. I’ve never seen anyone turn away from a hockey fight and leave the building. Everyone stands and cheers.

Soccer/football to the rest of the world is as violent and physical of a game as anything.
