Maryland GOP gives voters the last word

When Marylanders go to the polls in November, the most interesting races might not involve political candidates.

The state’s voters will elect eight members of the U.S. House of Representatives and one U.S. senator, and will help choose a president, but an unprecedented slate of ballot initiatives is expected to set the state’s course on social issues, including same-sex marriage and illegal immigration, and potentially on gambling and congressional redistricting.

This will be the first time in 20 years that a voter-petitioned referendum makes the state’s ballot, and as many as three could appear. All were initiated by Republicans who have embraced online technology as a way to distribute petitions and fight legislation enacted by the Democrat-controlled General Assembly.

Democrats hope to uphold the laws, but Republicans say the measures could help turnout among GOP voters and sympathetic Democrats - allowing them to win the ballot questions and possibly influence a few elections.

“I think it’s a tool that’s going to be used as needed,” said Delegate Neil C. Parrott, Washington County Republican, who is leading the online petition drive. “Hopefully, the governor and leaders in the legislature will pay more attention to what citizens actually want.”

Petitioners secured their first victory last year when they used the website MDPetitions.com to collect signatures forcing a referendum onthe state’s Dream Act, whose fate will be decided in November. The legislation, which passed the 2011 General Assembly, would let many of Maryland’s illegal immigrants pay in-state tuition rates at colleges and universities.

A referendum on the state’s legalization this year of same-sex marriage is also likely. A coalition of opponents led by the Maryland Marriage Alliance announced last week that they were more than halfway to their signature goal with nearly two months remaining until their deadline.

I wish they’d give us another shot at the casino referendum. A casino at Arundel Mills was a terrible idea. (And I say that as a stockholder in the company that owns the mall.)

There is no such thing as a “last word” for voters in this state. We suffer from one-party rule by entrenched (Dem) politicians. Note how Ike Leggett has once again demanded an ambulance fee even though it was decisively defeated by referendum in MoCo less than a year and a half ago. Our state legislature has simply refused to call the constitutional convention that we voters approved by referendum. The democratic process is a joke in Maryland.

I’m hoping that enough Marylanders and Baltimorons have awakened from their stupor under years of Maryland Marxist-rule led by Comrade O’Malley and his commissars, to overthrow this regime at the ballot box.

I suspect that decent and sane blacks have finally had it with the marxists and corrupt Democrats and crooks who run Baltimore and the state. Welfare is rampant as is crime and corruption, filth and incompetence.

Job flight, business flight, more taxes, more corruption (take Prince Georges County, please!), illegal immigration draining the lifeblood of the state and even ultra-liberal marxist Montgomery County, and incompetence may have finally hit the sane, middle-class and even some of the lower class (who want a better life and less welfare slavery and shitty schools).

I left Baltimore physically in 1966 and if it weren’t for a family business and relatives, I would never have even come back to visit (except for my friend’s super delicatessen - hot corned beef sandwiches).

It all comes to a head in November - whether the sane get to keep theirs and get rid of the marxist ruling class, or they lose their heads to the marxists thru increased taxes, crime, and corruption.

Marylanders - you only get one chance and this is it. Or kiss your asses goodby, forever.

I am against the Dream act and definitely agains same sex marriage. Personally I would hang the idiots that introduced these bills, and will bet that Bohannon the idiot from my district that voted for it will dissappear at his next election.

My main thrust is to replace Steny Hoyer, an a-hole who has over 30 years in the House and has forgotten Maryland in his efforts to be first in line to kiss Obama Buttocks and Kowtow to Pelosi.A man who never worked a day in a real job and has been on the Government Teat all of his adult life.

With Linda Lamone still holding her office as Board of Elections Supervision I have little doubt that corruption will be the protocol of the day . I'm still waiting for the Contra’s to save us from the tyranny of this commie state .
