May 12, 2012 JC Penney Features Same-Sex Couple in May Catalogue

Fifteen years ago, when advertisers got wind that Ellen DeGeneres was going to “come out” on her popular sitcom show “Ellen,” some advertisers fled.

One of them was JC Penney. Flash forward to one of their newest clothing ads in the May catalog. It features a real-life same-sex couple. The photograph is of two models identified as Wendi and Maggie holding their two daughters. Both women appear be wearing wedding bands.

Quietly, gradually and largely without protest, advertising is starting to reflect new attitudes and new realities about who we are. “Our cultures change and I think the broader consumer and the spending power in the country has become more progressive,” Eric Bovim, CEO of the ad firm Gibraltar Associates said.

There are gay couples on prime-time television shows, and now gay couples are coming out of Madison Avenue’s closet, which, according to Bovim, gives way to a new target audience.

“I think companies that are successful in marketing nowadays are trying to appeal to a progressive customer,” Bovim said. “They understand that customers are looking for social values, community, visionary aspirations. These are things that they buy into.”

Another previously unseen group in advertisements that now is appearing more and more is interracial couples, reflecting the rising number of mixed-race marriages in the United States.

Advertisers are sending different subliminal messages.

JC Penney was a strong Christian...and today look at the company that bears his name
The road to hell is filled with PC intentions...but its still hell and it’s not where any sane person would want to spend eternity.

The early Gaydar warning about JCP’s new ‘look’ came when they made Ellen Degenerate, their spokeslesb:

“Why even bother anymore? How do we even keep up with this stuff?”

It probably doesn’t matter at a time when few people have discretionary dollars anyway.

It would be nice to have a list somewhere (not necessarily an FR list) for people can list these places by issue, where they could be cross-referenced by multiple issues. I’d think there might be legal issues with that, though actually posting quotes from commercials etc. should avoid any slander/libel charges. Somehow the left is able to generate hoopla over their issues...

Haven’t bought anything from JC Penney in about 10 years...not going to change that pattern now.

Your letter is well-written and should be well-received, however there is a problem: I think that you wrote this via email.

May I suggest that emails are a dime a dozen. The way to impress some company is to write a snail mail letter on nice stationery. I believe that companies read those kinds of letters and often respond to them. They likely will not pay much attention to an email, which they think (correctly) is often just knocked out at the moment.

Maybe we should skip the big box stores all together, since they are headquartered far away from our communities. We do not know who owns them or who influences them. Maybe we should boycott everything that is “big”—big publishing, big magazines, big Hollywood, national companies etc. If we start thinking locally and if we start looking for ways to spend our time that does not envolve big media and big malls (Simon malls are big contributors to Obama) then we can start keeping our money in our communities and we will be living in the real world of our communities not in the tinsel world of Hollywood, big media and big marketing.

I know that it is not possible to avoid all big businesses and all big businesses are not evil, but we should make a conscious effort to keep it local and simplify our lives.

You are correct, but I am correct in knowing that they aren’t going to listen to me. I nearly put a smiley face there.

I could write a registered letter, and it would have no effect. They know full well what they are doing, doubling down on Ellen Degeneres. The homosexual lobby has them in tow.

Sad.

Time to ‘push back’ against the queers. They get ‘loud’; we get ‘louder’.

Yes, that is right. It’s like spitting in the wind, the wind being the homosexual lobby and the culture that supports it. It truly is invincible at this point. The memories of the America that I once lived in die with me and the generation in which I lived. There will be no such America for the next generations after us.

It’s sad because it didn’t have to be that way. Lack of vigilance, you know.
