Jerry Brown aims new budget at tax vote
Sacramento Bee ^ | 5/15/12 | Dan Walters

Just a few months ago, Gov. Jerry Brown chastised "declinists" and "dystopian journalists" for their pessimism about California, particularly about emerging from a deep recession.

"Contrary to those critics who fantasize that California is a failed state, I see unspent potential and incredible opportunity," Brown told the Legislature in January, citing supposed signs of economic recovery.

On Monday, however, Brown blamed a sluggish economy for revenues falling billions of dollars short of the rosy estimates in the budget he signed last June.

"You can never get it quite right," Brown told reporters as he released a revised budget aimed at closing a deficit he pegged at $15.7 billion, $6.5 billion more than his previous estimate.

"We have an uncertain economy," he added, describing revenue and deficit numbers as a "guesstimate."

Whatever the deficit may truly be, Brown's revised 2012-13 budget is as much a political document as a fiscal one, clearly aimed at persuading voters to approve new sales and income taxes next November.

“...falling billions of dollars short of the rosy estimates in the budget he signed last June.”

Everyone involved knew they were just kicking the can down the road.

All those outside CA, should pull out all investments, sever business interests, and basically boycott the entire state.

Do it!

Well since FR is in California, you can lead by example.

Way ahead of you. I severed all investments tied to CA, spend as little as possible here, and since I'm behind the lines, I make their lives miserable by getting very creative.

BTW, your FR comment was cryptic and I only do code with CW.

Do you just play the stupid role or are you actually this stupid?

You do understand that your last statement directly contradicts your first. Do you just play the stupid role or are you actually this stupid? You can start your boycott now, and stop posting on this California server. And by the way, stupid is as stupid does. And you've already given us your performance.

You're suggesting I am talking about boycotting a privately held website, FR?

Gak!

It's dial an argument again.

Some people, like you, need to find a *real* argument, or be honest and reveal what you're really crying about.

BTW slick, I live in CA, and do my best to boycott nearly everything here as much as possible, avoid purchases/taxes to the best of my ability, such as not purchasing new vehicles, CA state investments, etc. Hope this clears things up for your brain.
