Didn’t JCPenney pull advertising from Rush?

“They wanted to get me fired, and I’m proud and happy to say that JCPenney stuck by their decision to make me their spokesperson,”

The net loss was $163 million, or 75 cents a share, compared with a profit of $64 million or 28 cents a share a year earlier. Sales in the quarter ended April 28 fell 20% to $3.15 billion.

What MORON hires a Spokeslesbo for a company targeting families and children? Oh yeah... A GAY CEO.

Guess the gays don’t buy enough to make up for the boycotting families, eh?

“Isn’t this the company that eliminated store sales, lowered prices, and then said customers will now be flowing through the doors becasue of this new pricing policy?”

-

I’d be willing to bet, Wal*mart’s sales during the time period in markets they compete head-to-head in, almost exactly matched the J C Penney change, but in reverse.

The strategy seems to be marketing groupthink. That they can craft some sort of perceived price reality, and people will believe them.

Do they think people don’t have eyes? Or the internet, on which to see what competitors’ prices are?

Not sure if it’s Ellen being their spokesperson, or if it just their clothes are now not that good looking, and are not as good a quality as they used to be.

Ron Johnson: ‘We’ve Got To Get People To Understand Our Pricing Strategy’

He said that its turnaround has been tougher than anticipated but the “transformation is ahead of schedule.”

JCP
One big problem is that customers don’t get the new pricing strategy, which it started rolling out in February. A lot hinges on this.

“Our marketing isn’t doing the work. It needs to communicate pricing strategy” and bring in more traffic, he said. “We’ve got to get our pricing across.”

I can usually tell a new ad is from Target before they show the logo, due to its creativity. I can now peg a JC Penneys ad by its sheer dorkiness. That Fair and Square slogan makes me think of a hardware store. Mostly, I note that a guy must be behind the TV ads, because they lack appeal to women (IMHO). The brochure ads are attractive, but I don’t ask for political correctness from an inexpensive clothing store or any store.

The nearest Penney’s is ten miles away, and I have a tight schedule. I did shop there for discounts and sales. I could see from the coupon what dates it was in effect. I’m not going to bother to memorize their ever so efficient pricing schedule. It’s not likely to coincide with my schedule.

Who is making these decisions? Do they really believe middle America women identify or want to identify with lesbians? I know I don’t!

The strategy seems to be marketing groupthink. That they can craft some sort of perceived price reality, and people will believe them.

It's called "price image" and is a loose conglomeration of the following: store decor/style/lighting, prices on most popular goods, level of the brands selected, and hi/lo vs. EDLP vs. coupon pricing strategies.

Cheers!
