George W. Bush did many memorable things during his time in office. He gave us No Child Left Unharmed (officially mistitled No Child Left Behind), a massive, unfunded prescription drug benefit (Medicare Part D), and wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, the real cost of which will ultimately be in the area of $4 trillion.
As of last Thursday, however, one could make an argument that his most memorable achievement was nominating John Roberts to the Supreme Court. What a super pick that turned out to be. Clearly, Bush knows a stealth liberal when he sees one. (Im not buying the theory that Roberts is a cunning chess player who did conservatives a big favor by imposing limits on Congress power to make a mockery of the Commerce Clause.)
If the left succeeds in fundamentally transforming the United States of America into the Union of Soviet American States, Chief Justice Roberts, by virtue of a single unconstitutional decision, can proudly claim that he played a major role in that transformation by bludgeoning the Constitution at a critical juncture in our decline.

Name one democrat who would have nominated Scalia, Thomas, and Allito - all are solid.
Bush I and Bush II destroyed the Reagan legacy.
Sometimes its difficult ot anticipate the effects of the Potomac Miasma on the thought procecsses of previously rational judicial appointments. But Bush II slipped us a riunger this time no doubt.
The fact that Bush II FAILED to promote a TRIED and TRUE conservative justice like Scalia or Thomas to the Chief Justice’s position and slipped in this odd duck with little or no prior track record indicates where George’s sympathies lay. And it was with mainstream Americans.
It was to the same secret cabal of Bilderbergers, Council on Foriegn Relations people and UN groupies which his father served.
We KNOW what to expect from Obama. With Romney, there is always a chance he will appoint some guy who is a middle of the roader.
But as for a “conservative” Supreme Court? Forget it!!
Muchas Gracias Jorge El Secundo!!!
And NO - I DON’T miss him - now or EVER!!
Not compassionate conservatives, not kinder, gentler conservatives. Just conservatives.
“And it was with mainstream Americans.”
Should read:
“And it was NOT with mainstream Americans.”
Yes, what do you think GWB knew about Roberts and when did he know it? Only Howard Baker probably knows
After Romney is elected; after the Republicans retake the Senate and retain control of the House; Roberts needs to tender his resignation from the SCOTUS. He can cite health reasons or any other excuse, but he MUST put the good of the country first and GO! He no longer commands any respect and he is diminishing the respect for the SCOTUS. He has shown he can be manipulated and intimidated by the Leftist Media; he can longer be impartial.
I’m certain Romney would appoint a very conservative justice!
(SARCASM)
But the other side nominates only leftwing koo-koos.
Thats how we wound up where we are today.
Then we need a Conservative Party of the United States. The watered down GOP is not working for me anymore. Actually, the two ruling parties should split along the following lins: the right (conservative) wing of the GOP should pull out out and form the Conservative Party of the United States of America with very clearcut principles and agenda. The moderate republicans and conservative democrats should form something like a Social-Democrat Party. And the left wing of the Democrat Party should stop kidding themselves and everybody and turn into the Socialist Party, which they already are. This would make much more sense.
Remember, Kennedy was put on the court by whom? Thomas was put on the court by whom? Allito was put on the court by whom?
You also have to remember that Scalia will be 80 soon and Thomas is 64.
I am not defending this decison, but let’s be accurate.
Apparently Bush was impressed enough by Roberts to not only have him as his no. one choice for the first SCOTUS opening during his administration, but he withdrew Roberts name for assoc justice and re-submitted him for the courts top spot when it became open.
Alito, who has proven to be a fantastic pick, was a seeming afterthought.
“Name one democrat who would have nominated Scalia, Thomas, and Allito - all are solid.”
And Republicans nominated Souter, Kennedy and Roberts.
Not to mention, Dubai Ports, Illegal alien invasion, Ben Bernake appointment, TARP, etc.
“W” was a disaster.
“We shouldn’t elect republicans. We should elect conservatives.
Not compassionate conservatives, not kinder, gentler conservatives. Just conservatives. “
Are there any running for Pres?
Maybe Roberts was Bush’s revenge for the conservative crackdown on Harriet Miers
It has been my experience that people who spout things like this are often the same people who whine longest and loudest when nothing is done.
I don't need a twit like this to state the obvious.
“And NO - I DONT miss him - now or EVER!!”
Right on! And the other problem we have as real conservatives is the fact that the GOP establishment (which is, in reality, RAT Lite) has been serving up turd sandwiches as candidates since WW II with the exception of Ronald Reagan, whom they “saddled” with GHWB. We have been forced to either allow Radical RATS to become president or vote for the $hit list of has beens which include Richard Nixon, Ford, the Bush’s, Bob Dole, McLame, and now Romney. They have all been place holders who have done nothing to advance a small-government agenda before handing the reins back to the likes of Lyndon Johnson, Slick Willie, and now the coupe de grace, FUBO. Right now, once again, we have no real choice. We have to vote for the devil we don’t know to oust the devil we do know. It’s time to either rid the GOP of it’s current leadership, or move on and build a real Conservative Party.
You forgot bending over and taking it from the democrats without a wimper
