Call it damning with pink praise . . .

On today's Morning Joe, BBC's Katty Kay, anchor of the network's American edition, said that Europeans favor the re-election of President Obama because he is more supportive of "European social-democratic values." You know, those wonderful welfare-state policies that have worked their magic so well that Europe now enjoys . . . an 11.1% unemployment rate.

Two points. First, we had to save Europe from itself three times in the last century. Second, many of our ancestors came here to escape the garbage they were subjected to in Europe. So why do we lionize European political ideas?

Not everyone who came over from Europe did so to escape it, but to remake the New World in the Old World’s image instead. The progressivism that started in the early 20^th century over here did have a source.
