Maybe, but in Israel you’re talking a population of, maybe, 150 to 200 thousand who could legally donate. Like having a $60m dinner in Peoria. As I noted earlier, these things outside our borders don’t thrill me, but it’s legal, and if he can sell the seats, great.

Perhaps it is a face-saving, fig leaf for Hollywood or Wall Street types who fear the social stigma of being seen attending a Romney fundraiser in Manhattan or Hollywood.

In Jerusalem, the rich and powerful of the American Jewish community can also mingle with the rich and powerful of Israel, making for a more interesting networking and informational event for such high-dollar contributors. They could pass it off to other Democrats as an expense to that kind of networking, rather than really supporting the other team in their heart.

In any event, Romney hiimself needs to be networking/preparing now to manage Mid-East developments, in case he is elected in just a few months.
