But if voting for the lessor of two evils this Nov is an unacceptable course for conservatives then what positive, effective action can we take?
Goode over evil. Pass it on.
We can vote to deprive whichever evil wins of a popular mandate. The way we do that is to vote third party. Of all years for us to have to do this, providence has made this year the right one because Obama is in big trouble, as everyone from the MSM to Rush Limbaugh has pointed out: MANY Democrats who voted for Obama last time will desert him at the ballot box this time, either by not voting or by voting third-party.
Every third party vote, not just ours, but those cast by disillusioned Democrats who think Obama isn't "leftist" enough, will count toward reducing the popular mandate of whichever evil wins.
It may not be much to vote or hope for, but providence is on our side and it's the best strategy we've got. The conservatives we'll be putting in Congress will have a better chance opposing a president so lacking in popular support that the majority of actual Americans (as opposed to electoral college) voted "against" him.
THAT is the effective action we can take.

If conservatives formed there own third party, which only supported Republicans with proven track records, members of Congress would have no alternative but to take the conservative position into account before supporting liberal legislation. The President would find his situation similar.
Consider the current election, if conservatives had hung together in declining to support Romney, he would b e making very overt guarantees to conservatives to get our vote. However, when so many automatically support him, no matter how dissatisfied they are, he knows he doesn't have to do anything - so don't expect anything.
