I heard an eyewitness (a girl in the theater) on Today She say someone left the theater through the emergency door earlier. Sounds like the shooter possibly arrived at the theater as a regular patron, got up and left through the emergency door, kept the door propped open, got his weapons and gear out of his car, and then came back in through the same propped-open emergency door.

Exit doors open outward so it would have been dang near impossible to kick in. It could have been opened by someone inside the theatre. The perp could have gone to an earlier showing and left the door wedged open slightly. An explosive charge is a possibility - in multiplex theatres, I frequently hear booms and blasts from films in the adjacent theatre - I likely wouldn’t have been concerned if the noise wasn’t extremely loud.

You are making this much too complicated: People are sitting in a movie theater having a good time, expecting nothing bad to happen. Someone starts banging on the exit door from the other side. Maybe he's yelling "I locked myself out" I'm willing to bet that 8 out of 10 people will open the door for the person if only to get him to stop banging. The person who opened the door might have even been an usher (do movie theaters still have ushers?).

For what it is worth, I have read other accounts which stated that the perp bought a ticket earlier, went into the theater and taped the door latch so that the door could be easily opened from the outside.

Mine seems to be on Central time and I am in AZ. Did Jim move out of CA? During daylight savings time the time stamp is the same and then when the time changes in the fall it is an hour behind. Does anyone know if you can change the time stamp for your own viewing? If not, it is not that big of a deal.

All theaters I have attending to kick in the door would have caused quite a commotion. Not buying door was kicked in.

It's simple if you understand how locks on doors work. No , there is no way he kicked it in.
If he planned this ahead of time all he would have had to do is go out that door before hand and block the strike plate on the door so the locks bolt would not slide into it .
If the strike plate is blocked and the locks bolt does not slide into it the door would not be locked and he could walk right on in without anyone else opening anything .
