Rep. Gohmert: Did No One Else in Aurora Theater Have a Gun?
ABC/Yahoo ^ | 7/20/2012 | Chris Good

Posted on 07/21/2012 4:49:48 AM PDT by markomalley

The shooting could have been limited if someone else in the Aurora, Colo., movie theater had been carrying a gun, Texas Republican Rep. Louie Gohmert said today.

Gohmert reacted to the shooting, which left 12 dead, during an interview this morning on the radio program Ernest Istook Live! From The Heritage Foundation.

"Well it does make me wonder, you know with all those people in the theater, was there nobody that was carrying that could've stopped this guy more quickly?" Gohmert said. "I mean in Tyler, Texas, we had-my hometown-we had a shooter come in over a domestic matter, and just start shooting people. And it was a guy with a concealed carry-he got killed, but his shooting at this guy caused him to run and no doubt saved a lot of lives. He was a real hero."

Colorado allows residents to obtain concealed carry permits, according to the Colorado State Patrol website.

"I know that before we ever had concealed carry in Texas, there was a, just a senseless shooting years ago in Killeen, Texas, in a restaurant, and, you know, if we had had concealed carry permits at the time, there was a woman who had to leave her gun in her car, and if we'd had concealed carry the guy would've been stopped before he could've killed so many people," Gohmert said.

Glad somebody asked that very pertinent question. Shocked, though, that the question got reported.

Not that I don’t support this view but from all accounts that I’ve heard, someone else having another gun wouldn’t have done much good. I believe the guy had on a lot of protective gear, tear gas and automatic weapons.

Chest,chest,head,hip

That,s why you get taught that sequence of defensive shooting. Even If the guy has a vest one of these should eventually drop him.

Chances are, though, it would have made him duck, regardless.

What needs to be done is make gun ownership a requirement or pay a tax.

True but by the time one would have pulled out their gun, the guy probably had sprayed the audience with a lot of rounds. If you were that close to pull out your gun, then you might have been one of the first causality.

The problem with our society isn't guns which is a right and has been proven to save lives. IMO, the problem is all these violent movies and video games which cheapen lives and advocate poor moral behavior. Hollywood is the problem.

Aim for his face!
AIM FOR HIS EYES!!!!!

His gas mask is not bullet proof!

Other soft points are arm pits, and hands.

Even with having a bullet proof vest on, getting shot in the chest is like taking a serious punch in the chest. It may not kill you, but it'll certainly get one's attention. Perhaps enough so to stop the shooting for a second or two which may be all that's needed for a head or leg shot to bring the perp down.

From a couple of typical, clueless, Lame Stream Media Morons:

Colorado Movie Theater Shooting: 71 Victims The Largest Mass Shooting

By CLAYTON SANDELL, KEVIN DOLAK, and COLLEEN CURRY | Good Morning America

http://gma.yahoo.com/colorado-batman-movie-shooting-suspect-phd-student-085940589--abc-news-topstories.html

Holmes was apprehended within minutes of the 12:39 a.m. shooting at his car behind the theater, where police found him in full riot gear and carrying three weapons, including a AR-15 ASSAULT RIFLE, which can hold UPWARDS OF 100 ROUNDS, a Remington 12 gauge shot gun, and a .40 Glock handgun

Gee, where can I git' me one of them "100 round mags?"

A head shot from a pistol, armored or not, would still have rung his bell at the very least. The energy transfer is on the order of getting a baseball bat to the head and no helmet can prevent that.

That would have given others the time to flee.

True, but a slim chance of doing some good is still better than a zero percent chance of being able to successfully resist.

Also, he didn’t actually kill most people he shot, and he didn’t even manage to shoot most of the people in the audience. It only takes 2.5 seconds at most to clear leather, acquire a target and open fire, and many of the audience members had that time and more.

Google the “Beta C Magazine”. Also the KCI Beta and the Armatec SAW-MAG 150 round magazine among others. They do actually exist.

It's called a "beta c-mag", and yes it holds 100 rounds. Come to my gunshop and I will order one for you...

Click here to go to see one.

Pricey, and my margin is thin, but if you really want one, I can get them for you...

Seriously??? That really is a comment I would expect from a liberal mind. Funny, but Japanese TV, especially their anime, can be extremely brutal and make our tv look weak. The same movies that are released in the U.S. also get distributed around the world.

The issue in my opinion is the lack of accountability in the U.S. that has become he norm. The CO shooter is now going to be psycho-analyzed and have everybody offer opinions ranging from he was bullied, abused, etc. he'll then spend years in the legal system, eventually offered follow-up interviews to tell his "sad" story {sarcasm intended} and what drove him to this horrible act.

The sad reality is that in some jurisdictions, if another person pulled out a gun and killed the shooter, they too could be facing criminal charges. I say the trial should be short, followed by an immediate execution. A death sentence is meaningless if it isn't used.

Also, RIP Mark Alan Wilson, who knowingly went up against a man with an automatic rifle in the town square of Tyler, Texas, armed with only a .45 caliber 1911. Mister Wilson opened fire on the body-armor clad shooter unsuccessfully and paid with his life, but his actions resulted in the shooter leaving the scene and shooting no more innocent people. His actions also allowed the pinned down police to deploy and eventually catch and kill the shooter some minutes later.

KCI of Korea has an (apparently licensed) polymer clone of the Beta C called simply the Beta that retails out for half of what a Beta C does.
