The willingness to abandon one’s citizenship over money is reprehensible. The citizens of this nation can never give enough to even begin to pay for the debt owed to those who sacrificed something far more dear. Your birthright as an American isn’t something you barter away because you think you can get a better deal elsewhere, and if you do, then I’m happy to see you go.
PS - just don’t think you can ever come back again...
I didn’t interpret this piece as defending the idea of abandoning citizenship. Instead, it appeared to be pointing out one possible adverse consequence of continuing to pile on to the 1 percent etc.
“who sacrificed something far more dear”
Maybe you should also rethink your comment: People can get a better deal elsewhere then why wouldn’t they take it and why would those that “sacrificed something far more dear” approve of what this nation has become to the point people do find better deals elsewhere. You should demand changes in your country instead of demanding people just shut up and take it.
Absurd. I owe something to you?
I don’t blame them
If you see all you built having to be sold to pay estate taxes what do you to?
I had a messy divorce, and my ex went on a plan to cause as much financial ruin as possible. The judge let her...
So I let my house go into foreclosure and my parents bought it back at the auction. The bank did not lose one penny on my account and we did not lose equity in the house
Now... the house is worth $400K. If my mom dies after january I would have to sell the house to pay $180K in estate taxes
So the house my children spent their whole lives in will be gone, just to settle estate taxes
