Four years later some obamacons disenchanted with Obama.

In 2008, several Republicans endorsed Democratic then-Sen. Barack Obama over the Republican nominee, Sen. John McCain. But heading into 2012, many of the “Obamacons,” as The Economist dubbed them four years ago, have become disenchanted with the president, actively unwilling to vote for him or uncommited.

It's absolutely astounding how utterly ignorant some of these hopeless nitwits are. Here's the rankest quote from "John Hutson, a retired Navy rear admiral and judge advocate general;

“Unless there is a phenomenal sea change that I can’t begin to anticipate, I will eagerly vote for [the president] again,” Hutson emailed. “He hasn’t done everything I wanted him to do; in retrospect I think he probably should have been tougher with Congress. Every one time he conceded something as a show of good will and compromise, that became the new starting point for negotiations. He should have let the tea party and House GOP hoist themselves on their own petard.”

The nitwit who, as a retired rear admiral, ought to know his weapons and military history, shows he knows nothing about either what a petard is or what being "hoist" by a petard means. A petard is a bomb that's hung on a gate to blow the gate open. The Elizabethan use of the verb "hoist" means blown up. Thus, "hoist by his own petard" means "blown up by his own bomb." And we're supposed to believe what this ignorant overeducated POS has to say???

Obama voters pondering whether this time the GOP has nominated someone left wing enough to suit them, I think that in the end they will decide for yes, it did.

OK, so the Admiral (ret.) is a dumbass. But what’s wrong with the idiom? Sure, the literal meaning is as you say, but the real meaning of the idiom is “destroyed by your own weapon or tactic.”

Even if his advice was stupid, I fail to see how he misused the idiom here, which I took to mean, “make political capital out of their obstructionism, rather than giving them even an inch.”

I am amused by the fact that “petard” in French is the word for “little fart,” which gave its name to the gate-busting bomb.

He came into office with stratospheric popularity, a House majority and a filibuster-proof Senate majority.

In the eyes of this crowd that means he owed it to them to implement Socialist Nirvana in his first 90 days. Now they are like spoiled children who did not get their lollipop, and the Mother of All Tantrums has commenced.

The idiom’s fine. The problem is the “retired rear admiral” proved himself to be a complete ignoramus by using it to mean “hung up” instead of “blown up.” As a supposed weapons expert he ought to know the difference and at least know what a petard is.

By the time the election rolls around, these “Obamacons” will (unsurprisingly) decide to “stay the course. So where is the news part of this article? Same old, same old, as far as I can see. I'm just surprised the word “landslide€ wasn't used in an effort to further dissuade conservatives from holding their noses while they voted against Obama and for Romney. They know we will do it. They learned nothing from conservatives staying home in 2008 and then ruling the day in 2010. Unfortunately, since a majority in the Republican party LOVES being the elitist second string to the Democrats. After all, how else can they keep their cushy jobs, cushy salary, cushy perks and cushy seats of power if those rascally conservatives take over? Just 100 more conservatives in the House and 30 in the Senate and the twin plagues known as Boehner and McConnell will be relegated to their rightful place in the forgotten dustbin of history.

There's letters seal'd: and my two schoolfellows,
Whom I will trust as I will adders fang'd,
They bear the mandate; they must sweep my way
And marshal me to knavery. Let it work;
For 'tis the sport to have the enginer
Hoist with his own petar; and 't shall go hard
But I will delve one yard below their mines
And blow them at the moon: O, 'tis most sweet,
When in one line two crafts directly meet.

So what? John McCain did, too.

Well if this guy has never earned a buck outside the govt payroll I can see his point being a diehard Baraqqi.

What he doesn’t understand is that while the govt will continue to pay his pension and social security, it will come in Baraqqi/Bernanke/Geithner minibucks.

Sad, but true. I only voted “for” McCain because I knew the thing Obama was. If the DemonRats had run Hillary, I’d have voted third party to protest.
