He did give both sides a fair hearing. He always went with the far-left side, but he did give both sides a respectful hearing, which was fairly atypical at Harvard Law School at that time.

Of course he did because he's a gentle soul. Just like the respect he accorded Paul Ryan at the Health Care "summit."

I recall an interview with Paul Ryan a while after the “summit”. He said Obama went straight to him when it ended and told him he had good ideas and that he would be in touch with him. Ryan said he never heard from Obama on the matter again.
