The problem is that someone paid for exclusive rights. Exclusive isn’t an ambiguous term in business.

Exclusive rights to give away free stuff? How goes that work?

Like Coke pays to get its product displayed in a movie and some member of the crew leaves a Pepsi can that can be seen in a shot.

It’s done all the time. Sponsorship is just a form of advertising. Exclusive rights mean that a company has secured the right to have only its products available for consumption/view.
