The White House and NASA today defended comments by National Aeronautic Space Administration administrator Charles Bolden about reaching out to the Muslim world comments that conservatives criticized as undermining NASAs mission.
A few days ago, in Cairo, Bolden told Al Jazeera that when he became the NASA administrator, President Obama charged him with three things: "One, he wanted me to help re-inspire children to want to get into science and math; he wanted me to expand our international relationships; and third, and perhaps foremost, he wanted me to find a way to reach out to the Muslim world and engage much more with dominantly Muslim nations to help them feel good about their historic contribution to science and engineering science, math and engineering."

Oops! I should not have included that apostrophe in my comment.
I cannot even comment on this.
It makes me angrier and angrier each time I read about it.
I stayed up late to watch the landing the other night, and when it successfully touched down, it was hard not to share in both the joy and relief, it was so contagious.
I noticed the Affirmative Action hire Bolden walked through with his secretary and her clipboard, and were studiously ignored by the folks working at the consoles.
It wasn’t hard to see from that exactly how the scientific people feel about that turd and his ideological partners in the government.
Good on you for even realizing that error. I'm amazed at how many English speakers misuse the apostrophe today. When I was a kid, it instantly marked a person as semi-literate, and a probable dunce.
I have the same anger and disappointment with seeing our space program gutted.
Well, exactly which contributions?
This is how we ended up on the moon ... spending resources around the world to make 16th century bigots "feel good" ...
You should have had the anger when NASA destroyed America’s manned space program by going with the money pit known as the Space Shittle.
“Muslim nations to help them feel good about their historic contribution to science and engineering science, math and engineering.”
That would be fine, if they actually had any. in nearly 1200 years of existence, most of their claims of scientific achievement are dubious at best. Islam by and large has been a hinderance on human advancement not an propogator of it.
Well, they are responsible for forming the US Navy and the USMC.
I have always been a supporter of space exploration, but I don’t rule out cutting things back, as we may need to do to pay off this massive debt.
But to spend even a single bloody damned cent on muslim outreach through the space program is enough to make me scream at the top of my lungs.
It is like the homosexual and sexual harrassment sensitivity training that is either taking place in the military or going to begin soon...I am outraged if we even spend the cost of a single MRE towards these issues.
Just makes me angrier than I can express.
Thanks.
I agree with your stated issues.
Wait until China and Russia are at the top of the food chain in space. I’ll be more than angry, I’ll be homicidal.
Thanks grundle. An ‘extra, extra’ to the APoD members.
Probably has something to do with the jokes about yesterday’s explosion being an “outreach” demonstration.
