Those military and police ARE us. Despite the desires of the regime, the young Lance Corporal or Airman or Seaman or Soldier are from our neighborhoods. It will take much PSYOP for them to pull the trigger on their kin.

Won’t take too much to convince the senior officers though...

Drones, anyone?

Hmmm.

On top of that, troops and cops have families, too, and they will be facing the same hard times the rest of us do. What did the gunowners ever do to them?

What to do? Obey a clearly illegal order, or go home (taking your weaponry with you) to organize a neighborhood defense? And Uncle Bob, the Vietnam vet that taught you to shoot? He may be slower and chubbier now, and wear coke-bottle glasses, but he's still a bigger badass than you can hope to be.

The UN or some multinational foreign force? The "rifle behind every blade of grass" of Yamamoto's warning would look more like the welcome wagon.

For those who will be sitting on the fence, remember that they will have to go out every day and night, even on "peaceful" patrols. They have to be lucky every time, because they'll be going out again and again for a long time. "The other guy" needs to get lucky only once.

I disagree. A senior officer corps selected through politics, rather than accomplishment, by affirmative action instead of affirmative deeds will not be easy to convince, and is already used to sacrificing Americans if it benefited them.

Case in point - who dutifully accepted rules-of-engagement in Iraq and Afghanistan that resulted in the death of American soldiers without resigning their commissions (as any honorable leader should have done)? Senior officers - so deluded that they thought their own next promotion was more important than the lives of Americans.

US Senior officers in such a scenario will surround themselves with the analogs of Iraq’s “Republican Guard” or Iran’s “Revolutionary Guard” which will leave our junior officer and enlisted corps not thusly corrupted to deal with the already corrupted senior officer corps.
