(I called up my Aunt and Uncle who have GEICO (and are among the few who are NOT online in any way, shape or form) and told them about this, my Uncle said and I quote "F--K GEICO! I'm canceling those dirty b@$tards TOMORROW and replacing my coverage by the end of the day!!!"

Re: only military members can use USAA — not so.

If your father was in the military then you’re eligible as well.

I was under the impression that USAA is a private company. Am I incorrect?

So why did the History Channel dump him?

My husband was in a (thankfully minor) motorcycle accident caused by an SUV driver (who was ticketed by the state trooper). The driver was insured by GEICO, whose first reaction was to claim that he didn’t have a policy with them, and then to drag it out for weeks and weeks as they “investigated” whether this person was or wasn’t insured by them. It was beyond ridiculous and they were rude on top of it. Meanwhile, our State Farm agent cut a generous check for a new helmet, paid the doctor bill and threw in some extra for pain and suffering and paid the bike tow and repair bill all the while being very nice and assuring us not to worry that they would get things squared away with GEICO. It’s been a while and I don’t remember all the details but I think they had to threaten GEICO legally but they eventually admitted the guy did have a policy with them and they paid SF and if I remember right we may have gotten an additional small payment as part of that settlement.
My experience with SF customer service and claims has been nothing but stellar over the 20+ years I’ve had insurance with them.

We have had Allstate for over ten years. In that period, we had a couple of deer collisions and some parking lot fender benders where our car was still parked.

Allstate was prompt and fair. Customer service was flawless. Our agent always follows up and personally speaks to us to get our opinion. They also handle our homeowners, but we have never had a claim.

Once, I called the 800 number to try and decide if a pipe leak deserved a claim. I got a snarky person at the call center. I mentioned this at a later date to our agent, who was outraged and who reminded me to always call her office, not the national call center, for advice.

When I compare prices, ours seem to be average for the property values, miles driven and area.

Prior to Allstate, we had Auto Owners, where we had other deer collisions plus one property damage claim. They were also handled professionally and we received fair, prompt payment. However, after the property claim, for a record-setting rain/wind event, Auto Owners jacked up our premiums, so we switched.

It seems to me that every company has its detractors. The one I hear the worst stories about is State Farm, but I have no personal experience w/them.

I have had USAA for over 40 years. They also farm out motorcycle insurance to Progressive, at least here in Colorado. Took the motorcycles to Allstate. No problems with them so far.

A few years back, the guy who did the Brit-accented voiceover for the Geico gecko was fired for making derogatory comments against the Tea Party movement.

Interesting. GEICO is %100 owned by Warren Buffet, major Obama supporter and maybe the world’s biggest abortion supporter.

Same thing happens with the Discovery Channel...build the channel on testosterone fuel and once you have a decent following, introduce estrogen. The Discovery Channel started in the ‘80s with promo films about planes. You could count on seeing a Lockheed film at 5pm every day.

That got replaced by home improvement shows. So, they made a WINGS Channel...which became the Miltary Channel. Which is now showing a food show about airline food.

I think R Lee just wanted to yake a break from thw heavy schedule of filming a weekly show.

It’s kind of like being married. You spend years building a man cave complete with big spool coffee table and a couch with books for a leg but really comfortable.

You get married, suddenly, apparently the windows need curtains. The old couch gets replaced by one you can’t put your feet on. And the Playboy centerfolds you spent years collecting have to come off the ceiling where you meticulously spent arranging them like a perverted Michaelanglo have to come down before her mother arrives.

I’ve had State Farm for over 40 yrs. Several years ago they sent me a letter stating that I would never be cancelled. They are tough, and will drop you in second if you are involved in several accidents after initially insuring you.

There is a lesson here as it relates to health insurance. Young healthy people should not pay the same for health insurance as gezzers like me. The gross unfairness of the ACA is the financial burden that it places on young, healthy people who are just starting out and have no money in the first place.

GEICO makes better commercials.

The voice actor for the gecko is actually British, and the accent is from some part of London, according to an interview with Dennis Mille a few year back. He was talking to the guy behind the various geico ad campaigns. At the time, they had 3 or 4 successful ones going.

You are way right, of course. I intended 1st ID. Must have been the R.Lee influence. Regardless the soldier probably earned his jump wings prior to 1st ID.
