While the zero tolerance policy is bad enough, interpretation and enforcement are done by the school administrators and it was so in this case.

The people solely responsible for this fiasco are the demagogues who pass themselves off as school administrators who are *enforcing* this policy.

The military, Police agencies, School administrators enforce the policies established by "Civilian" boards, we are the agents of your decisions.

Further what kind of law suits would the district open itself to if they did not enforce these policies equally across the board.

Using an extreme example for purposes of demonstration: A district has a policy against fighting. The administrative staff of one school decides that they will only enforce this on children with blue eyes. A fight breaks out between a blue eyed student and a brown eyed student and only the Blue eyed student is suspended.

One word Lawsuit.

Apparently the Grand Island school district has a policy that prevents students from bringing “any instrument…that looks like a weapon” to school, and now hands can be considered “instruments.”

This cannot be thrown back on the parents or school board.

It does not qualify under the zero tolerance policy. He brought no instrument to school which resembles a weapon.
