I suspect there is more to this than meets the eye.
The US has been conducting military exercises with Egypt for a long time. However, the most important lesson they want to impart to the Egyptians is always that they never, ever want to fight the US military.
However, as is the want of Islamists, they do not trust the military command, and want to replace all those trained military men with reliable jihadists, who know very little indeed about military matters.
As was the case with Iran, this resulted in huge numbers of Iranian dead in the Iran-Iraq war, because these fools wanted to use Koranic combat techniques against a modern army. Civilian human wave infantry attacks do not work against mechanized infantry.
So I imagine the big purpose of this exercise is a crash course in three lessons.
The first is that if they ever, ever, attack the US military, they will be utterly obliterated.
And these jihadi insta-generals will look at their subordinates who will be vigorously nodding their heads in agreement.
And the second lesson is that the Israelis *also* have a military that will mop the floor with them. And again the subordinates will be nodding in agreement.
The third lesson is that they need to prepare to act if some “holy men” in Cairo decide it is time for you all to be slaughtered in a holy war, while they sit in safety at home with their fat wives and watch it happen on al-Jazeera.
I hope you are correct. With the freak in the WH and his muzzie handlers, I don’t feel positive about this.
