Alexander is a somewhat adequate (but certainly not exceptional) actor. One suspects that he is a fellow-traveling leftist, as with most show people.
I'm guessing that he got a clandestine "request" to make such a statement, call it "career insurance".
Not that his career was going anywhere...
Oh, and the "man crush" thing? It's an obvious stunt to get cheap ink. Clearly nobody would listen to this unread and pitifully obese, short, and bald little man if he did not do some pot banging or streaking to attract attention.
