With both presidents facing tight re-election fights, Venezuela's Hugo Chavez gave a surprise endorsement to Barack Obama on Sunday - and said the U.S. leader no doubt felt the same.
"I hope this doesn't harm Obama, but if I was from the United States, I'd vote for Obama," the socialist Chavez said of a man he first reached out to in 2009 but to whom he has since generally been insulting.

Meanwhile the BBC today reported:
Two opposition politicians have been killed in Venezuela during a campaign rally, a week before the presidential election.
Antonio Valero belonged to the opposition party First Justice and Omar Fernandez was an independent.
The First Justice party said they were campaigning in Barinas state when gunmen shot them dead from a van.
Witnesses said it belonged to the state oil company PDVSA, but there was no confirmation of this.
A statement by the party said a rally had been planned in Barinas, President Hugo Chavez’s home state, but the road was blocked by government supporters.
When the two men left their car to try to gain access, they were fired on by gunmen inside a van, it said....
