Salinas’ top cop is reaching out to allay fears many Spanish-speakers have of the police, feelings born from mistrust and misconceptions of law enforcement.
“You’re hearing this from my voice and I’ll say it over and over again: We don’t care where you’re from; we don’t care how you got here,” said police Chief Kelly McMillin during a forum Thursday aimed at improving community relations on Thursday. “All we want is your information and your support. As long as you reside in our community, our mission is to keep you safe. Nothing else is important to us.”

“Georgina Mendoza with the Community Alliance for Safety and Peace told Central Coast News that McMillin represents the new age of law enforcement. Something the people at Rancho Cielo agree with. “I have full confidence in their process and so I’m sure they’ll pick the right person. We’ve had great success working with Kelly and he’s a delightful collaborator and a great leader,” said Brusa.
He’s “forward thinking” and “pro-active.” In other words, he knows he who really answers to: the non-governmental grievance lobby groups, not the citizens and taxpayers of Salinas.
These communities would be way better off if ICE started a new deportation program called "Deport a gang banger, deport the whole family." When they go in to arrest a "criminal alien" they should do a immigration check on everybody in the house. If they are illegal, deport them. You raise a gang banger you get deported. If you are going to cut out a cancer, you sometimes have to take some viable tissue, just to make sure.
No wonder 250,000 people a month are leaving California.

Actually, this was the general policy of police in California for decades, including LA.
You couldn’t have a city like LA with a million illegals who were afraid to talk to the police. (It would create a subculture controlled by criminals.) Nor, could you have a city where a million people would never be willing to appear as witnesses (even if, say, they witnessed you in a car crash).
Immigration was considered a federal problem.
Those reasons are still valid; if you haven’t kept the illegals out, you’re going to have to adjust to their presence.
(That said, we should be able to control our borders; or else just put up a sign, “Come and get it!”)

Your JOB Chief is to protect the citizens of your community. Not be a social worker. We are at war. Enemy soldiers want to enter this country and kill our citizens. You damn well better car where people came fro, and how they got here!
Society is nothing but a series of contracts. I am contracted to report my income and transfer a portion of it to the government. The police chief is contracted to uphold the law. Illegals are breaking our nation’s contract by entering our country without abiding by our laws. How about if we violate our societal contract and renege on public employee pension contracts?
