It's worse than that... not only is Foggy Bottom going to conduct an "investigation" of itself, but among the investigators are former or current members of the board of Trita Parsi's NIAC, a group whose purpose is to soften and ease restrictions on the Iranian hardline regime.
Among NIAC's advisory board members are former Undersecretary of State Thomas Pickering....
NIAC's predecessor org was AIC, which petered out after one of its top dogs Amirahmadi was jailed for sanctions busting.
So NIAC was created to start fresh... for a while. One of NIAC's top dogs, congresscritter Robert Ney was involved with Jack Abramoff and pled guilty to conspiracy.

Great information. Thank you piasa. Thomas Pickering came up when I was looking at the Bill Clinton Administration. When I heard HIllary say she was having him head up the panel I got out my old file, still have more on file to add, that I haven’t flushed out yet but here’s the link. I only use it on occasion.
