If I had been living in Berkshire, England at the time, would have been much more concerned about the Soviet SS-4, -5 and -20 missiles that were pointed at me.
If I remember reading about Soviet nuclear war doctrine, the main targets for the SS-4, SS-5, and SS-20 missiles based in the Soviet Union all the way to just east of the Ural Mountains and SS-12 missiles based in East Germany and western Czechoslovakia was every NATO air base, commercial international airport and NATO underground command center. The mission was simple: knock out the technically superior NATO air forces so Soviet Frontal Aviation and Long-Range Aviation could attack other targets in western Europe with less opposition in the air.
