The CIA story is a head fake, nobody should go for it. The in-country CIA "rescues" were token efforts, the best they could do with assets already "in country" and not bound by cross-border authority rules. The real story is why the robust USMC QRF waiting in Sigonella was not sent.

By the time the pitiful little ad-hoc CIA "rescue team" chartered a plane and arrived in Benghazi, over 100 Force Recon Marines should already have been there.

Right, and according to the Pentagon yesterday, they never made plans to intervene during the attack. They staged for a "hostage situation." They didn't even have troops on planes circling off the Libyan coast waiting for a go signal.
